I do not not the greatest for either, but my favorite for a novel would be Darth Bane: Path of Destruction. Although, I do not read many SW books anymore, so I imagine it's not one of the greatest. For nostalgia sake though I'd say The Wrath of Darth Maul is a childhood favorite.

For comics, my favorite series was the legacy issued ones about Darth Krayt. I enjoy his story and overall era quite a lot. The more recent ones about Darth Vader are good too.
