A New Hope. It lacks Empire's highs, but also its lows.
I will give the Empire Strikes Back this, though: it has the clearest name. "A New Hope" is vague as a first tile, since everything about it is new; we've never seen anything before. "Return of the Jedi" isn't about the Jedi returning; despite Lucas's thoughts, "Revenge of the Jedi" would've been more accurate.
A quarter century on, I still don't know what "The Phantom Menace" refers to; "Attack of the Clones" is mostly about clones BEING attacked, rather than attacking; and "Revenge of the Sith" would be a lot more meaningful if we had more than the vaguest idea of who or what the Sith WERE. The movies just use it as a synonym for "dark Jedi", but a little more clarity would be appreciated.
"The Force Awakens" isn't about the Force awakening, and "The Last Jedi" explicitly says that Luke isn't. "Rogue One" was a title that came out of nowhere from a designation that came out of nowhere, and "Solo" was a movie about Marvel's Starlord, inexplicably referred to as "Han". I don't expect good Star Wars movies from Disney, since these people have clearly never read Joseph Campbell and probably think Mircea Elliade is some kind of beef souffle, but you'd think they could at least make relevant TITLES.
Nothing will ever beat the un-"special editioned" version of the 1977 original film.
I like three original movies a lot... plenty of childhood memories :D
but my fav is
Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker
Choosing the best Star Wars movie can feel like picking a favorite child, but for me, it's "The Empire Strikes Back." 🌌 The storytelling, character development, and that incredible plot twist with Darth Vader are unforgettable. I remember watching it as a kid, and being completely floored by the epic battles and deep emotions. What really stands out is how it doesn't shy away from the darker themes, giving it a depth that's both thrilling and emotional. Every time I revisit it, I find something new to appreciate. ✨ What about you? Do you have a favorite?
It would be return of the jedi
