There IS no best guitarist of all-time, man or woman. There are dozens of famous guitarists in their own genres who are excellent and amazing, and thousands more you've never heard even heard of because they're not recording or performing live.
There are too many different styles and types of guitar music to anoint any one person as "the greatest". Can a rock guitarist or shredder play flamenco or Spanish guitar, or vice-versa, with equal ability? Nope.
Best we can say "among the greatest guitarists I've ever heard", and there's always another!! That's what makes music great.
There are too many styles of guitar playing such as rock, jazz, country, blues, metal etc. If you take the subgenres the guitar is not played the same amongst each of those. Those best guitarist, best singer, best drummer etc lists are subjective especially if they are across different genres.
Didn't know that, also not shocked by it. But how is it objectively measured if someone is the greatest guitar player?
The internet apparently has a really awesome algorithm.
I'm not surprised to be honest the best bricklayer is a woman as well
Yup.
@FilmGuy93 John Starks
Margaret O'Dowd
@lottiebannotie The thing is, it was a guy named Brick.
You go girl... get 'em... Most of the "Rock and Roll" guitarists and 'Blues" players... can't even read music... I play violin and Piano and take music theory. Those 'musician's mentioned, learned to play in somebodies garage, and that is ALL they can play... I have LISTENED to some of their "music" and it is NOISE"... and just that... and they were high on narcotics at the time. I will probably have to 'block' that guy for all of the bullshit I will get for this... but "ho, Hum"
@Friendlybro79 No, no, no, John Starks was the best 'concrete finisher"
@Bricealan lol
@Friendlybro79 Well, at last, another GAG member with a sense of humor !!!
@Bricealan how dare you say I have a sense of humor. Jk well I try to have one at least ha

Hank Marvin is generally not considered as good as Eric Clapton. Clapton has stated his ambition as a young guitarist was to be as good as Marvin.
It's all opinion.
Everyone has an opinion. Like everyone has a nose. They're the same - everyone has one and there's usually a couple of holes in it...
I doubt that.
No question - there are great (and greater) lady guitarists.
But when you ask 100 people about their favourite player... how many will nominate a girl?
Also: we don't need to rank them. Just be grateful for the music they give us :)
I have no idea who that imposter is, but she is not Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Chuck Berry, B. B. King, or even one of the best female guitar players in history. You must get your news from Fox.
That's the problem. You haven't heard her. Let's get g@g to stream one of her concerts live so we can settle this controversy.
You might be right!
Isn't that a matter of opinion? I thought the late Price was the best one.
Greatest Of All Time.
It's one thing to be amazing playing music you wrote, that plays to your unique strengths, but when you can come in on someone else's music, and absolutely shred a solo, not just for 20 or 30 seconds but several minutes, showing your virtuosity while still remaining tasteful and true to the song, that's extremely rarified air. Then you find out that Prince only showed up for the final rehearsal, and the main guitarist, who'd been rehearsing the whole week, didn't drop out to let Prince play the solo. They were going to do another take, so Prince could practice, but he told them not to bother, he had it already. So the actual performance is the first time anyone heard him play this:

@MrOracle I’ve seen this many times!
Yes he was the best, to write all his songs and be that excellent at playing. I think Tom Petty didn’t look too happy about Prince being there, but George Harrison’s son certainly welcomed him. Dani is his name? Looks exactly like his father there! Uncanny.
Dhani is how it's spelled (because the Beatles were way into Indian mysticism). But actually, you can see Prince glancing at Petty, who smiles and nods for Prince to keep going. I think Prince surprised a lot of people that evening - people who should have already known what a master musician he was.
What many don't realize is that Prince himself performed most or all instruments on most of his albums - countless highly regarded professional keyboard, bass guitar, and percussionists have had Prince school them on their own instrument, and they all report that his lessons made them better players. When dozens of pro musicians look at you in awe and respect, you must have something.. M
Well... supercutebutt... you really stirred up a hornets nest ! LOLOLL
As women guitarist go she would be in good company with people like Nancy Wilson, Bonnie Raitt, Chrissie Hynde, Joan Jett, Stevie Nicks, Lita Ford, Sheryl Crow, Janis Joplin, Sister Rosetta Tharpe and many others.
I don't want to be rude but this is politically correct BS. There is no other way to put it.
Pretty rude, dude.
Sorry. It's politically correct nowadays to say women are better than men at EVERYTHING. Facts don't matter.
Who said "EVERYTHING?" I only mentioned guitar. If you don't like it, complain to the internet. :)
Whatever makes you happy
Jimmy Page's long hair doesn't make him trans.
Everything else might, though.
I don't think Jimi Hendrix was a transgender man.
I would not be surprised but if she is so great why have we never heard of her?
Maybe YOU haven't heard of her.
Clapton sucks balls and the other two you mentioned nobody has ever heard of before.
It could be me but I am simply too busy.
Not really. Sorry about your hero-rapist, by the way. 😞
I did not know that! I’m curious about what metric they used.
Be sure to vote!
lol That is not even the greatest female guitar player of all time.
Also, the list itself has some laughable names, like Elvis Presley. Great vocalist, but total hack on the guitar.
Are you calling the internet a liar?
lol THIS is why we love you.
Suzi Q is truly ausome, but there are many greats,
Hulk hogan, that your favorite wrestler, Google it
Did not know that actually
that's a matter of opinion, not a fact...
Who are you, the anonymous fact police?
it's called having common sense...
Okay I'll bit, what's her name?
Cool 👍
Is it Suzi Quattro
Suzi plays bass guitar. And she's from Detroit!
Okay school boy error
