The most outstanding one was a particular Led Zeppelin concert at the L. A. Forum. I had seen them several times previously. It might have been the Presence tour.

It began in total darkness. Then, when the first note of The Immigrant Song thundered, the stage lights and spot lights came on at the same time. It was like an explosion.

Their song set covered songs from all their albums, started with a thrilling beginning, gradually moved softer stuff, the went in to some acoustic and exotic numbers. Those ended with Stairway to Heaven, which was a perfect transition back to electric. They played more songs. The concert itself was like a well crafted song, a story or a journey.

When it ended, the crowd applauded wildly. They came out for an encore. After that, the crowd applauded louder than ever. The band came back for second encore, and when they finished, the house lights came on. But nobody moved. They applauded and stomped in unison on the bleachers for five minutes before the house lights went off and the band came back. When they finished the song, the same thing happened. That happened three more times.

When the band came on for their sixth encore (the last four of which were unplanned), they played Thank You, and Robert Plant improvised some words for the L. A. crowd.

When the last notes of the song faded, there was complete silence. It had been the perfect ending. Anything more would have been anticlimactic.

The house lights came on, and people stood there as if in shock or too overcome with emotion to speak, the peacefully filed out.

The second most memorable concert was Yes' Tales of Topographic Oceans tour, again at the Forum. The stage set up was like an alien planet. It's impossible to describe.

There were large, greenish-brown boulders on the stage that lit up from within at some point. The drum set was like a cage with with all kinds of drums, a marimbaphone, percussion instruments, a gong, and stacked cymbals all around, and an insect's carapace in top. The shell of the carapace opened up at some point with lights inside, and two wings came out to the sides onto which images were projected. Rick Wakeman's keyboard setup had some kind of sculptures behind them that looked like giant glowing ribs. Steve Howe held a guitar with a strap around his neck, but there were two more guitars on a stand that held them as if hovering in mid air so that he could switch from one to the other seamlessly. Each one sounded different.

At some point, smoke came from the back of the stage and flowed like a river around the rocks and over the front like a waterfall.

Looking at the stage, with the rest of the arena in darkness, one felt like they were in a dream. Your vision telescoped to the world on stage and your lost yourself the way you do when watching a film in a theater.

And of course, the music was incredible and the band members' performances while playing were captivating.

I saw hundreds of amazing concerts during the 70s, but those two stand out as the most memorable.

Joe Cocker, circa 1995-ish or so.

I had been to many concerts over the years and had become somewhat jaded to them.

As soon as Joe hit the stage, the real magic of a concert was instantly brought to life and was sustained throughout the entire show.

    Thanks, Joe.

    May you rest in peace.

Journey - first one and i got a tshirt of 'em

Christian band - mother really is one to give up when things aren't working. I stayed and she tried to force me to come to the car so we can go home because the weather was getting bad. they didn't say the show was cancelled so I waited. Then they played like 3 songs and it was so delicous as I can put how many times she was wrong in my booklet of wins... imaginary book.

My first Hip Hop concert in Miami, FL and the Spring of 1999. I met Wyclef Jean, I saw the late Aaliyah, Timberland, Eight-Ball & MJG, Beyonce with her group Destiny Child, Krazy Bone from the rap group Bone Thugs N Harmony, and more. I was 16yrs old and that was one of the greatest time of my life.

I have never been to one but I would love to go to a Paramore concert. They are coming to Charlotte, NC which is close to where I live. I would have went but it's on a Tuesday night. 😔

Seeing Tori Amos changed my life forever, but there are others like Rush, Dream Theater, Winery Dogs, Sons of Apollo, Black Sabbath to name just a few.
