What is the best concert you’ve been to?

I’ve never been to one, my first concert is going to be Foo Fighters in January next year. Very excited!

I went to hundreds of concerts in the 1970s.
The first one was Stevie Wonder opening for Sly in the Family Stone.
The second one was Black Sabbath opening for Grand Funk Railroad.
Black Sabbath headlined from then on. I saw all of their tours.

I saw The Who a couple times when Keith Moon was still alive.

I saw Pink Floyd, in the early days in auditoriums, including one concert in quadraphonic sound.

I saw every Jethro Tull concert including Aqualung, Thick as a Brick, and A Passion Play. They were amazing.

I Saw Yes open their Fragile album for Deep Purple.

The Yes tour for Tales of Topographic Oceans had the best stage of any I have ever seen. It was absolutely surreal.

I saw all the Wings tours.

The list is endless. I often think of Batty's words in The Blade Runner. "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe."

I saw every Led Zeppelin tour. And one of those was the best concert of my life.
It was their Presence tour and I saw it at the Los Angeles Forum. It opened with the house and stage lights exploding on from total darkness with the crashing opening of The Immigrant Song. The entire song set was built like a perfect song, starting out with thunder, moving through some hard rock classics, then gradually moving to more melodic and softer things and into acoustic stuff from Houses of the Holy and Physical Graffiti. Coming out of that, they played Stairway to Heaven, which took them back into hard rock.

But here's the thing. When they finished and left the stage, the house lights remained off while the crowd cheered. The band came back for an encore. When that was over, the same thing repeated and they came out for another encore. But when that song was over, the house light came on.

The audience didn't move. They screamed, shouted, applauded and stomped in unison on the bleachers for a good five minutes. Finally, the lights turned off and the band came back. That happened three more times.

Those last four encores were not anticipated. They were command performances.

Then they came on the last time, they played Thank You. Robert Plant improvised lyrics for the L. A. audience.

When the the last notes of the song faded, there was utter silence. The house lights came on and people stood there as if entranced. Then everyone began filing out in silence.

The audience knew that no ending could have been more perfect. It was emotional and absolutely magical. I've never seen anything like it.

Oh man, I’ve seen so many shows, hard to narrow it down to even a Top 10, haha.

The Roots were really incredible live, in an indoor stadium, no less.

The Beach Boys are split up these days. Mike Love headlines the actual Beach Boys tours, and Brian Wilson tours on his own. Between the two of them, it checked all the boxes. Mike Love still has it, and it was just great Beach Boys song after great Beach Boys song. Brian Wilson is COOKED, lmao, needed help on and off the stage, couldn’t really sing anymore…but he’s the legend behind it all, so it was really meaningful to see him, even if he was carried by his background singers.

I had a really good time at Green Day & Weezer at Fenway Park. I was running the mosh pit (was way softer than I hoped, but most Green Day fans aren’t there because of their old school punk-type stuff, they want Boulevard Of Broken Dreams and 🎶I hope you had the tiiiimmmmeeee of your liiiiffffeeee🎶🤦‍♂️ But at the points where it was good, I was feeling the energy, shirt off, in gorilla mode, and I just remember during a pause between songs just turning around and looking behind me, taking in the enormity of the venue and the crowd, at a historic place like Fenway Park, with the vantage point usually only witnessed by professional MLB centerfielders, seeing all the lights against the night sky, and I just felt in that moment like I owned my city. And actually people were loving me in the pit, random people in the crowd were dapping me up and shit (I have wild hair these days so I attract attention lmao), so it didn’t just feel like it was only in my own mind. Even got the eyes from a couple pretty young ladies, who would’ve for sure laughed and ran away if I told them my age😂 That was all a vibe for sure, though.

Had a good time in the pit at Taking Back Sunday a few years ago, and also at Rage Against The Machine at Madison Square Garden. Then this Pat May I finally saw Blink-182 in their entirety, and I was right up front, just feet away from them. That was the up close and personal performance I wanted for 900-goddamn-dollars I had to pay for the ticket, lmao.

I have been to more than a few concerts from the small club with bands that were past their top of the charts days to 90,000 people in a stadium (I was close too, at the 30 yard line on the field in front of the band).

The best concert was Billy Joel with 17,000 people. I had seats pretty high up but it was a smaller indoor sports arena and I was closer to him than most fans as I was looking at the stage from the side so it was okay.

He did an incredible show and the fans appreciated it. Fans gave him a bottle of red and a bottle of white wine which he put on his piano. When the show was over, the crowd just cheered until he came back out FOUR times. On the fourth time he said he didn’t have anything else to play but normally after everyone leaves he just plays his piano in an empy stadium. He then said if we didn’t mind he would just play. The crowd went nuts. And then it was silent as he played for at least 20 minutes chatting with us like friends every now and then and it was truly an amazing experience like we were in his living room while he played things we didn’t even know so not his hits. That 20 minutes elevated it to the best concert I have been to and won’t forget.

I saw Pat benatar in a little dive one time and I mean she just rock the house it was good

Aerosmith and Boston were good

Journey was really good there's probably 20 more that I can name off but I mean they're all good they're all meant something anyway good time

I'm not sure I can narrow it down to one - I've been to over 300 shows in my lifetime, with probably 500 bands/acts.

My top shows would be:

- The Cure, on the Wish tour.

- No Doubt on the Tragic Kingdom tour.

- Journey, at Day On The Green in 1983.

- Prince, on the Purple Rain tour

- The Smashing Pumpkins (with Garbage) on the Mellon Collie tour.

- ZZ Top on the Recycler tour.

and a big honorable mention to Dick Dale - the king of the surf guitar - at Live 105's BFD concert in 1997. There were 9 bands and 10 timeslots, and Dick Dale played 2 of them, and even being in his late 60s - 20 years older than anyone else - he blew everyone else off the stage.

While I have been to a number of concerts, the best one I ever attended - and actually I went to see them several times - was the Brookside Jazz Ensemble.

Of course, this is a bit of a cheat, as BJE was actually a band of which my father was a part. He played alto and tenor sax and - sometimes - clarinet. He was an engineer, but in high school and college in the 1950s he had a jazz band with his three brothers.

He loved jazz and in later years, though he pursued his career in engineering, he stayed with jazz groups. Brookside was the biggest - playing at the Montreaux Detroit Jazz Festival as well as several other venues. His band also later produced an album.

To be sure, I have seen bigger groups. Mostly pop. However, in my memory, nothing beat Brookside.

I’ve been to a lot of concerts and my favorite of all time was Green Day/Fallout Boy/Weezer/The Interrupters (I think for this one). It was held at a stadium and every seat was filled. The energy was insane and each band had such good energy. It was really wholesome when the Fallout Boy singers said they grew up listening to Green Day and how they couldn’t believe that they were playing on the same stage.

I've been to Black Veil Brides, McBusted and my most recent one (though at least a year ago) was My Chemical Romance.

The last two I was asked to go to basically help ground my neurodivergent friends.

McBusted was probably the most fun in concert.

But I also randomly enjoyed the 3 hour driving to the concert, and back (past midnight, and with a detour to my friends house to drop her off) to get back in time for my partner to get to work lol.

WOW! I can't even remember a lot of the concerts I've bean to. But I think the best one was in '84 or '85. Iron Maiden on the World Slavery Tour. The tour was later recorded for the Live After Death album.
