I went to hundreds of concerts in the 1970s and 80s. Some were absolutely amazing, indescribable. I quote Roy Batty in the Blade Runner. "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe."

But I'll name one that stands out. It was Led Zeppelin at the Los Angeles Forum. It must have been the Physical Graffiti tour in 1975.
The concert started in total darkness, then the lights lit up the stage like an explosion on with the first crashing notes of the Immigrant song.
The song set was crafted like a symphony with highs and lows. At one point, they played some exotic acoustic stuff on different instruments and came out of that with Stairway to Heaven to lead into more rock songs. They played all their hits and a lot of amazing stuff. They were at their absolute best.

But here's the thing. When they were done, the house lights remained off as the audience went crazy. Let people tire themselves out. The band came back for an encore. They left the stage and the same thing happened. Then they came back for a second encore.

After that, the house lights came on but the audience didn't budge. They applauded, screamed and pounded rhythmically on the bleachers.

After a long time, the light went off and the band came on for a third encore.

That happened three more times. The audience was ruly but it sounded like the stadium would shake apart. There was no way the band planned to do six encores but the audience wouldn't leave. It's unheard of.

For the sixth encore they played Thank You and Robert Plant improvised some lyrics for Los Angeles and the audience.

When the last notes of the song faded, there was absolute silence. People knew there couldn't be a more perfect ending. The house lights came on and people quietly stood and filed out, filled with emotion, knowing that they had experienced something very, very special.

I'm sure the band remembers that night. I doubt if any other bands have experienced such appreciation.

Back in the days when people paid money and saw an actual live band. Now people willingly pay money to see someone mime to a backing track.

I went to see great musicians, not hyped up celebrities.

Now that is a concert story.
      WOW!
You're fortunate to have had that experience.

Alter Bridge back in 2014. It was a fantastic show by itself, but what else made it cool was that I scored a backstage pass, meet the band, and tell Mark Tremonti that he inspired me to play guitar.

    "Ah, thanks, man!"

And I walked away feeling all giddy. "'Man'. He called me 'man', like we're friends or something!" 🤭

Seeing Santana at the Filmore West when I was 15.
I had the biggest crush on the drummer, Mike Shrieve.
He played at Woodstock when he was only 19.
Even now I watch his 🥁 drum solo he did at Woodstock. He hadn't even been with the band for very long when he played at Woodstock.
Man, those were the days! The early 70's.

There are at least 100 concerts I have seen that would qualify for that including several big festivals.

Joe Cocker in the early 2000s.

I'd been somewhat jaded by attending so many concerts over the years since the early1970s, that they had somehow lost the feeling of magic that they once held for me.

    No so with Joe.

He was long, long, long into his career by then, but that man and his entire entourage put every last bit of their hearts into their performance.

    The MAGIC was back.

RIP, JOE, the world loves you.

    Thanks, Joe, for everything!!!

    Rammstein.

The stage props were taller than the stadium.

The sound was like a force of nature.

And the sheer spectacle. Its honestly almost impossible to describe.

Pink was pretty good in concert when she came last time. We were in the 2nd row. But I have to say my most memorable concert was Metallica this last time around. I say this because it was my son’s first concert at 16 in the pit.

It's tough. Id say a classic rock cover band that I went to see tonight. It's amazing they always get a huge standing crowd making you feel like it's a normal rock concert.

It's a fun atmosphere where people jump, dance and sing. It's hard to top

Roger Waters, the Wall (in Berlin, 1990)

Memorable, because I was invited to go there with friends, but opted to be with the family instead.

Not knowing that I will miss a historical event :D

I saw Jimmy Buffett. It was in an outdoor venue. There were picnic tables up front and I was sitting so close that I had my feet up on the stage.
