Anybody know good skinwalker stories or are familiar with the legend behind them?

Been trying my hand at writing a horror story about one but would like some more insight on their legend.

I appreciate the info and ideas. I was considering a story revolving around two deputies looking for a serial killer, but it turns out to be a skinwalker that can change form and keep itself from being discovered and hunted.

I remember reading that they could take on the shapes of those they killed and mimic voices and sounds. Is that accurate too?

I can't remember it well, it's one I heard years ago. It scared me when I heard it since I was camping in the desert. If you fall asleep with your feet exposed, a monster (can't remember what you call it) will lick the sole of your feet, steal your spirit, and use your body to leave the desert.

It sounds silly, but there are so many strange sounds, poisonous creatures and treacherous things when you're spending time in a strange, empty, and very quiet environment, stuff like that starts to weigh heavy on your mind when you're setting up camp at night.

If I remember right it was in the form of a coyote to make you into a shell, hence the licking.
