What's are your opinion on blind casting?

In today post pc and diverse world most movies studios will implement the concept of not focusing on the characters specific gender, race, and or ethnicity, and sexual orientation. The sheer idea of doing blind casting is for literally anyone regardless of background can audition for a specific role and the best actor or actress with the greatest performance can at most get that's role? So ladies and gentlemen I wonder how you consider the practice of blind casting are you in favor for it or against the concept of blind casting?

In my personal opinion I honestly don't care how others develop their shows and movies but it's just need to get implement on something that's make sense, if non of the characters specifically isn't defined by anything I don't mind the concept of blind casting. Now if something about the characters is integral to the plot of the story or if it's about real life people I don't think blind casting is the right move. That's is only me though but gentlemen and ladies what is your opinions on the concept of doing blind casting?

Unless the plot says otherwise, it makes sense. Catch is, it's not always easy to tell.

For example: I've read that at one point, a network wanted to make a TV show of Neil Gaiman's Anansi Boys- but they insisted that the main character, Charlie, be white. Gaiman told them to be pound sand, and that made sense, since the character's west African heritage is important to the plot. The movie adaptation of Stephen King's Dark Tower had the main character, Roland, played by Idris Elba (who's black). Now, in THAT story, Roland's heritage as a descendant of his world's version of king Arthur is important to the plot, so was changing his race a problem? I'd argue no, since 1. Roland's skin color is never mentioned, outside of a throwaway line or two, 2. he's FAR descended from Arthur, 3. Arthur's skin color is never mentioned at all, and 4. race isn't really a concern in that world, as they have more important things to worry about.

Even in circumstances where it's kind of dubious, it can usually be overlooked- provided they simply DO it and don't launch a PR campaign to brag about it; that shows it's done for controversy/social credit, rather than acting skill or artistic merit (looking at you, BBC).

Blind casting is absolutely fine if race or ethnicity aren't important. I actually like that.

I used to hate it when white actors were cast to play Native Americans, Chinese or Arabs, for example.

But I have to say that I hate casting for "diversity". When there always have to be gay people and every couple has to be mixed race, or when black people have to be included in films about ancient England or northern Europe, I consider it to be social engineering.

Yes usually hate when white people get cast as others who aren't white. The same these days happen in the opposite am that's equally annoying

Changing the race is one thing, but whatever that shit ain't new. So I ain't even phased. They’ve been doing that since like the 90s and early 2000s. But changing the gender slick bother me. They take a whole ass dude or girl character and turn em into the opposite and that shit hits different. I mean some still kill it, but it bothers me a bit. Either way, I’m focused on who was cast. For example, if they cast Kristen Stewart, Ben Affleck, Beyonce, I’ll likely already dislike the shit. Them mfs can’t act 🤣 I love Bey but not as an actress. And definitely not as a voice actress. So when it came to the Little Mermaid, i wasn't mad about anyones race. I was mad about how bad Sebastian and Flounder looked, uglass Eric (who grew cute once he put on a hat) and Ariels unkempt hairstyle (the dreads ponytail she rocked at the end looked so much better). Awkwafina is a horrible voice actress but i give her credit for that Scuttlebutt rap

I truly have no problem with blind casting as long as it doesn’t affect the fictional show/movies storyline. However I absolutely detest it if they incorporate this in historical documentaries. I get that you want to be equal when casting roles but it’s better to have the documentary as close to the truth as it can be. For example, they shouldn’t change Harriet Tubman’s skin color to white and they shouldn’t have changed Cleopatra’s color to black.

It’s dumb. It’s just a one way street as well. A Zulu king would never be cast as a white guy but and English king would be and has been done. You also can’t take a role that was cast originally by a black guy and make it a white guy as there will be an uproar but you can do it the other way. It takes you right out of the show and reminds you of the chaos of today’s politics. It’s just BS.

Plus blind casting on gender might be a bit difficult considering it's a proven fact men and women do think differently at times.

It's a big problem when they do it for historical pieces, like that viking show that had a black woman as a Jarl which is just absolutely ridiculous because no black women held any position of authority in medieval Scandinavia. It just breaks the suspension of disbelief.
