This is, of course, hypothetical.
Build up a group of people, keep us armed to fend off zombies and bandits, look for a place that has safety without corrupt leaders and try to rebuild society
In my ideal system I'd get ahold of an ar15 and lots of ammunition, I think that's the best gun for this kind of situation due to availability of parts, ammo, and magazines, plus you could use rails to attach a scope, my ideal melee weapon would be a gladius which is what the Romans used, you could grab a shield, it's probably the most brutal sword that still works inside tight places

@Berethor glad you think so! I also don't understand why people aren't wearing full body level 3 kevlar with level 4 plates, or if they're going after the zombies a full suit of plate armour or chainmail, zombies only have teeth and nails, if you can work with a group they likely won't trample you

Well, where I live is pretty isolated anyway, a small town of approx. 1500 people. The zombies are likely to make their way from the nearest large city (that's where the outbreaks always start), and at the first sign of their appearance I'd hop in my (very reliable and comfortable) car and just drive. If any of them got in my way, I'd just crunch them under my wheels! :D

I think more about financial collapse, but they're both similar. Convert my well from electricity to hand pump, put rain collecting barrels on the roof, concrete planters in the driveway, dig the ditch from the front of my house all the way around the property and much deeper, sandbag the dirt against the walls.
Booby trap every inch of the ditch, and my entire yard. Not much else to do, I have too many kids to pursue that nomad lifestyle.
I already have seeds for crops, though at the moment all I grow are herbs and seasonings because it's much cheaper and less effort to just buy grains and vegetables right now.10 Reply
+1 yI would go no where to start. Shelter in place is my best option. I have about a years worth of food, and enough water for a very long time. House is easily fortified so I would stay until the zombies naturally decayed and fell apart. More then the zombies the issue is other survivors. They will be hungry and want what you have. To protect yourself, your family and your very survival you will have to be willing to kill. Not easy for a person who has the food and is well fed, much easier for a starving person. And unlike today (no apocalypse) sharing isn’t caring. Sharing is dooming everyone involved.
Good luck during the apocalypse.10 ReplyWhy would I go anywhere? I live in Florida on agricultural acreage… I have a 12 month growing season. I never have to deal with snow or cold. I have multiple highly productive artesian wells. I have an established food forest of my own. There is also broad acreage of citrus groves and whatnot around. I have a reasonable sized solar array. I have plenty of tools around the farm. There is excellent salt water, brackish, and freshwater fisheries close by and tens of thousands of acres of wilderness to hunt. All of my neighbors have guns, many of them are veterans, and my next door neighbor use to be a cowboy for most of his life on those tens of thousands of acres of land before they were turned into a state park. He knows every inch of them… My neighborhood is very community oriented… People help each other out. Most people have gardens, fruit trees, and livestock of some sort. I think I’ll just stay here.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zHNSd8IfWh8 - +1 y
@Berethor The zombie fence issue really isn't a problem around here. Every 60 or so acres is surrounded by drainage ditches (moats) that are 30 to 120 feet wide and the entire community of farms is surrounded rivers, large canals, large bodies of water, swamp/marsh land filled with alligators, etc. Putting up tor or three barricade or demoing a couple of bridges would keep any traffic out of roughly 75,000 acres of farm land.
+1 yI see a lot of answers about what weapons to use, armor, how to fight and destroy and stockpile, &c.
I'm not really into doing all that every day, sounds like a stressful hassle and heaps of work, not to mention dangerous. I would just untie my yacht from the dock and set sail out into the ocean. Figure out a place here or there I could get fruits and veggies, otherwise fish is great and I can go a long time on just fish. Scurvy actually takes a long ass time to get, and the basic supply of vitamin C packs I have would stave it off for decades. I'm pretty well stocked on some of the other basics like a giant bag of beans and rice.

Maybe I'd find some island untouched by the Horde? Start a mango farm or something :)

+1 yIt all depends on the situation and how it starts. In most cases you want to hunker down, but have a quick escape plan. I have a couple of bug out locations, friends and equipment I can fall back on. Unfortunately my biggest oversight is my day job. To go North to basically all but one resource requires passage through a single highway which would be shared with 80% of people trying to leave. So provided it happens outside of work hours or I can be one of the first out/before the blow the bridges, I’ll be fine.
10 Reply2.1K opinions shared on Entertainment & Arts topic. Countryside where I live, it's wide open there's animals to hunt, fish to catch it would be easy to get away from zombies compared to being in a cramped city or even a smaller town and because of the wide open space it'd be easy to see zombies coming and in general where they are.
And there are pockets of forest and tree's so I guess easier to conceal yourself since technically zombies can still see or you could use the wood to build a house or compound/wall. And there's also lots of areas with cattle fencing so zombies would probably get stuck in them making them easier to kill.
Really the countryside is the best place to go because of all the reasons I stated above.

+1 yLol I've been preparing for this since I first played Left 4 Dead all those years ago.
The plan is to grab all my weapons and tools and throw them in the truck. Meet up with my pals at my buddy's parents' farm. There we'll make our final preparations and make the drive up north to the cabin. (We can make it there on a half tank of gas in each truck. While hauling tons of stuff. We've done it before.) There we can live off the land, outlast society's collapse, and return to the city to rule over the new world as our Feifdom.10 Reply - 459 opinions shared on Entertainment & Arts topic.
+1 yI honestly would stay home, my town isn't that populated, the house can be easily secured. I got multiple guns and bladed weapons, though I would avoid using the guns and only shoot if its really urgent. Many preppers underestimate the dangers of guns: they are very loud, even with silencer, and attract nearbys, also you eventually run out of ammo. For melee weapons, blunt force weapons, like bats and maces are the best, blades can get stuck, break and need to get sharpened.
To live self sustaining, I have a garden outside, a food cellar, a rain collector and soon to be installed solar panels. Also I live at the end of the town next to a forested area where you could hunt or drive off over quiet country roads if the house would be breached.
So just need to be quiet and dont bring the zombies attention
10 Reply
+1 yI already live in the country and have land and guns, but I would need to salvage solar panels and figure out how to install them so I could keep power going to my well pump so I don't run out of water.

Probably try to hold up in a major store like wallmart for the food and ammunition and wait it out. Essentially you need somewhat zombie free that has strong walls food and water which could be anything from a fall out shelter to a colonial Fort museum. You could always become a marauder.
I've a bug out bag so maybe head to somewhere with little population.

Emergency 101:

I'd head to the nearest comprehensive High School. They have plenty of room with controllable access. The walls are thick and difficult to breech (for a zombie.) It also has a large kitchen with stockpiles of food. Access to plumbing, electrical, and auto shop could also be available. Survivability also increases with group size. Adding more people is scalable as well.
11 Reply1.2K opinions shared on Entertainment & Arts topic. Go to Walmart and grab alarm clocks and extension cords. Setup a series of clocks to go off every hour in a large circle. The larger the circle the better. Clocks should be within earshot of each other. Go to the power plant and ensure that it keeps running. Setup home base in an apartment building on the third floor remove the stairs from the second floor to the third floor. Add a rope ladder from the second floor balcony to the third floor balcony. Start farming.
