Can you give me an example of "Counterpoint' in music, as I have asked my music instructor, read on Google, and it is still not clear?

I used to listen to and dance to a musical group called The Counterpoints" and they were simply one of the best bands around at that time, Lead Guitar, Base Guitar, Rhythm Guitar, Organist, and a great female singer. Never thought to ask why they called themselves The Counterpoints'.

Now I take music lessons, piano and violin. I asked my music teacher and she talked about 'Point/Counterpoint" in musical tempo etc.

Can anyone that knows music, give me an example of a musical 'piece' that plainly displays that part of Music Theory. i. e. Point/Counterpoint?

Whenever discussing music its always best to look for an explanation which gives examples you can hear, so next time just look at youtube.

@Astarlessnightsky Never thought about the example on YouTube... I DID start violin that way by learning how to play an A Major Scale and in other instances, used YouTube to learning how to play 1/8 notes in a piece on the piano.

Ton Loc Wild Thing and Yes owner of a lonely heart can be combined in the same way with little modification.

Point counterpoint. Basic music writing. You're just writing a bass line essentially, to a melody

Is that at all similar to what I am doing in trying to play Schubert's- Ave Maria, i. e. playing the piano accompaniment along with Cello or violin? When trying to play piano, I look at what the notes the violin is playing with the melody. Is that what we are talking about? Thanks for your reply!
