Why do people enjoy lying to you and when they get caught they get angry at you?

Yesterday I rented a trailer to move my belongings. I paid a decent amount of money and assumed their service included handling my clothes boxes from my home to the trailer, because I included that in the services of APP.

Then the trailer driver called me and flirted with me heavily and then told me it costs 5x more to take my little boxes to the car if they want to help me. It means, I would have to pay 5 times more than renting the trailer price just to have my light boxes carried with elevator to the trailer.

I told him I lived in China long enough to know he was a liar and I would no longer use his service and cancelled the order 18 hours earlier.

He got angry and said “Everybody likes to bully Chinese”, am I the bully for not being willing to get fooled?

I must add not all Chinese are like this, most are very hard-working, nice, great, honest people. It’s just this one was a liar and then he blocked me when I confronted him lol.

I rented another truck and the driver is very nice, I figured that the guy yesterday lied to me so hard, he wanted to get 30X more money than that service actually costs. I wonder why did he think I was an idiot to agree to pay 30x more than the actual price of the service. Especially that I had already paid the renting and handling fees charged by the APP, he wanted to get extra with cash.

He was very angry that you caught him. He was also angry that you called him a liar which was unnecessary and probably also not a very good idea. Since you never know what revenge somebody might want to take on you. Instead, you could have just told him that you would not pay the additional money and thanked him for giving you the information. Although he didn't give it to you at a proper time.

Making people angry is always a very bad idea and should be avoided unless it is completely unavoidable. And in this case I think it was not unavoidable.

All that said, I can well understand why you were angry and why you might have acted on that anger without really thinking first about what you were saying. I might have done the very same thing in that position.

That’s a bad rephrase of what I actually texted him, here’s my exact message to him

“ I have lived in China for 5 years, that’s a long time to learn when somebody lies to me…

I have no interest in further communicating with you. I have cancelled the order. Goodbye.”

He messaged me he wanted me to pay 500 USD extra on top of what I have already paid, so he would help me to carry some of my 10kg boxes to the elevator and then pack them to the trailer.

I cancelled the order 18 hours before the time we were supposed to pack. I just lost the interest to communicate with someone who lied to me so shamelessly.

I ordered a new truck and the exact same service costs just 18 USD extra according to the small weight of my belongings.

I will tip that new driver tomorrow, because he has been honest with mr.

But why should I have given 500USD extra to that liar to just carry few boxes down to trailer, especially that I had already paid for everything and he had no right to ask me any extra money?

I am happy he messaged me hours in advance, It would be worse to face this situation face to face. I think he thought cause I was a foreigner he could get away lying to me.

He gave me that information at a good timing, I ordered 24 hours earlier and he messaged me non-stop for all the time (Which was very creepy) and then few hours later he told me I had to pay much more than that service costs. So I told him I wanted to cancel the order and he was free to not come tomorrow.
