Oy gevalt, THIS again. Evolution is not progress towards a goal, it's adaptation to a changing environment. After Toba, the best fit humans were those who needed fewer calories and who could eat the widest range of foods, so if one went extinct, you were still okay. That's why every other branch of humanity died out (except the Neanderthals, who were way the hell over in Europe), and we survived. The rise of an oppressive AI would improve survival rates for humans who were more meek and docile; THEY would be a better fit, and the "next stage" of our evolution.
I'm white with Blue eyes, I've ginger hair and have the ability to digest dairy. I am already a mutant.
Other mutants include tibetans, Andean peoples, innuits, Moken peoples.
But I think human evolution is ultimately stunted largely thanks to modern medicine and technology. For instance in the past babies with heads to big to pass through their mother's hips died just like mothers with narrow hips had trouble giving birth especially to big headed babies but now thanks to modern medicine and technology there are all sorts of procedures including cesarean c sections that make almost every birth a success so these genetic traits are not weined out. Another one is people with short eyesight, whereas even decades ago were seen as less desirable to mate with now its the normal and more people have short eyesight and more people will. Another one is height. Diabetes is another, sickle cell anemia etc.
So basically human evolution has stopped because genetic weaknesses are being passed on thanks to technology and modern medicine so unless we institute a genetic engineering programme you know with genetic editing designer babies or start a eugenics breeding programme like the nazis or the Jews had to breed specific genetic traits that we want and want to eliminate humanity will cease to evolve and become ever mote dependant on technology and modern medicine. Sounds dark but maybe a person who's appendix burst is supposed to die without passing on their DNA
Yes. Obviously. Mutations are the driving factor of evolution.
