What musician has earned your respect?

I've always enjoyed James Blunt's amazing song "You're Beautiful". He captured an amazing feeling that so many men have... being inspired by a woman, and not getting them, fighting through those feelings. I suspect many boys and men experience that as they grow strength and women can relate to the knowing they are beautiful in the eyes of another. There may be deeper meanings to the song spiritually... songs are in the eye of the beholder!

And then I read this wiki about his service in the military. In essence, he and decision makers above him refused an order from Wesley Clark... to avoid starting WWIII! Can you imagine! That be firing squad at some times in history. You can be thankful.

The musician who earned my total respect was Jimi Hendrix. He, alone, showed what was possible with an electric guitar and he inspired every guitarist who followed him.

His childhood was dirt poor and he was raised by various relatives, all during the segregation era.

He was consumed by learning guitar, despite being left handed, went to clubs to see the best blues artists, asked them for tips on how to plan certain licks, and was fearless in performing in talent contests as he learned his chops.

He enlisted in the the Army and kept playing guitar in his spare time. He injured his back parachuting and was discharged.

In his early days, he backed up a lot of famous musicians. He was determined to be a professional guitarist.

When he finally got signed by Chas Chandler and taken to England, he made a name for his showmanship, flamboyant attire, as well as brilliant guitar work.

He wrote some brilliant lyrics. His albums contained music that was amazingly creative, imaginative, technically complex, and diverse.

Near the end of his life, he became more and more interested in the civil rights and anti-war movements. Many believe that he would have been an influential leader if he had survived.

Evidence suggests that he was murdered and his name slandered, just like MLK and other civil rights activists, in order to prevent him from bringing whites and blacks together in support of civil rights, anti-war, peace and justice.

What he accomplished in the four short years of his mainstream career is legendary.

The official story was that he was passed on on downers and booze and aspirated his own vomit. But the coroner's report found red win in his lungs. How do you inhale wine and drown?

It would have been easy for spooks to kill him that way and to for people to believe that he was just another druggie who OD'd.

Kid Rock. I never really got into his music much but he refused to go along with the liberal crowd which I am sure hurt his career in the Ling run. He says that he knows many celebrities that are conservative but would never rat them out because they will never find work in show biz again.

I would say Sammy Hagar because he cares about his fans. Every city he plays a show in he cuts a check for $10K to the local food bank. I have met him several times and he is the whole package.

That song by James Blunt grinds my gears and it drives me up the wall with the repetitive lyrics. I guess each to his own.

The rock band Iron Maiden. They have produced many years of great music and concerts. They are not in it just for the money. Their concert tickets are very reasonable in price. They truly are a "fans" band.
