The Producers (1968) was a funny, although crazy movie. If produced today I'm sure it would be a flop.

Oh yes, I’ve seen it many times. Both versions of the movie are great! It’s one of my favourite musicals.

You’re probably right that it likely wouldn’t do well if it was released today. People aren’t into musicals like this anymore.

Perhaps, but if that were the case then it would have never made it to Broadway in the first place. It’s a satire piece.

No, I seem to have missed that one - thankfully. But I think it was one of the first movies Gene Wilder starred in.

Yup. Mostel and Wilder were very good in that.

Kind of reminded me of the plot of MacGyver- TOS, thank you- S4#9, Cleo Rocks where the show was designed to fail to collect on the failure.

Yes, I saw it decades ago. I'm pretty sure they had an assembly at school and showed us this movie.

I remember seeing movies in science class but not at an assembly. That sounds like of strange. Was it hosted by the German teacher?

No teacher at all, that I know of. Another time they showed us "Wait Until Dark".

It's a huge school and they only had one or two assemblies per year.

I have seen this and randomly wind up with a couple of suns from it running in my head (typically "if you've got it, flaunt it" or "springtime for Hitler in Germany").

No, but I make it a point to not go to musicals or view them because they make my head hurt.

They remade it with Will Ferrell, Nathan Lane, and Matthew Broderick a few years ago.
