Can you take the theme music from a TV show and change the lyrics?

Here is an old show.

Here are the new lyrics I learned from the boys in school.

Of course you can, it's a parody or satire (satiric parody). BUT

Just don't try to publish it and SELL it for compensation of some sort or you might be in violation of some sort of copyright law without giving the originator a cut of the publishing pie. Maybe John "Records" Landecker could help you out since "Landecker and the Legends" performed several satirical parodies in their heyday.

Very creative guy. Among others I liked My Bologna, and Amish Paradise. (Yes, I know- while coming from the same anabaptist roots, Amish and Mennonites are NOT the same now.) Anyway, I liked his syncopated counterpoint in that one.
