In the late `70's and early `80's, our local FM station would sometimes do a Led Zeppelin A to Z spree. Taking all of their studio albums, they'd get all their songs listed in alphabetic order and start with the first one in the A's and play all the rest in alphabetic order up to the last one. Then, they did one for The Beatles. Then Pink Floyd, etc.. After a few years of doing just one or two bands once or twice a year, they decided to do it with various bands once a month. Mostly bands that had a lot of albums. It'd be kinda stupid to do one with someone that only had about 6 albums. It'd only run 3 to 4 hours.
Do/did any of your local radio stations ever do any A to Z specials?

Not that I recall, however my friends and I would have "marathons" of one band's entire collection and then another.
I do that every so often, too but, not exactly marathons, when I want to listen to certain bands, I like to play all their stuff in release order but, I'll listen to it while I'm doing other things and, if I have to leave for a while to eat or go somewhere, I'll just pick up where I left off when I come back.
So far, the only one I don't do that with is, The Moody Blues. But, I haven't done it in a couple decades! With them, I'll start around 7:00 p. m. in the spring or summer so that, by the time I get to the end of side one of "Days Of Future Passed", it's JUST starting to get dark outside!! Inside, I'll just sit in a chair and listen to the music with only one very dim light on. The perfect setting for the bulk of the rest of their music. I'll keep a bag of pretzel rods at my side and munch on those when I get hungry and wash it down with root beer. The only time I leave is at the end of an album side to get more root beer or to take whiz. The last time I did it was after their 6th comeback album so, that whole set lasted me `til at least 2 or 3 a. m.. Now, with all the early stuff I've added, I've gotta start it at about 6:15 p. m. and it'll take me `til at least 10:15 a. m. to play it all!!
Most of the bands I collect only have a few albums out so, it'd only take me a couple hours. I haven't done The Beatles since 1994 because, since then (when the Anthology albums came out), I've been finding tons of unreleased stuff from them and, every time I put it into the list where it belongs, something else comes out! I've also tried to include all their solo stuff and still don't have it all so, at the moment, it'll take 13.5 DAYS to listen to everything I've got, so far, non-stop! I've done King Crimson twice, that takes a few days, and CAN be a bit of a brutal listen because, with all the live stuff, you have to listen to quite a few songs over and over again.
And, I'd love to do XTC but, I have to finish recording it all to tape or CD in correct order so I can do it non-stop, so to speak. Since I started it about 8 years ago, life got in the way big time and I'm still going through some shit! I might not even be in this house by the end of the week!!
I think I did Yes a few years ago but, they just put out a new album.
Ok, I think I'd commit suicide before the end of a Moody Blues marathon in the dark. 😬

The Moody Blues are good, but kind of slow and sad after one or two songs.

I like the music, just not the dark place I end up if I listen to too much.

They're a German electronic band. They started making records in the late `60's and are still doing it, today although, their leader just died 9 years ago. They did TONS of movie soundtracks! A few T. V. shows, too. I never bothered to count but, they must have well over 50 albums.

yes. my wife has Sirius XM in her car. They have a 70s station that plays old recordings of Casey Casem;s American top 40. Very cool.
Yes they do. They do it once a month. They also do a top 400 count down. They usually do that just before the summer starts

What's at the bottom of the list, "My Name Is Larry" by Wild Man Fischer? Just to get to 200, you'd have to be scraping the bottom of the barrel!! 400 must be well under it several yards!!

I don't remember if that song was played. I've yet to hear every song. It runs from Friday at 5pm to Sunday I believe 10 pm
