Why was the name of the competition "hunger" games, what connections to hunger?

in the popular novels hunger games, and films, the name of the competition is "hunger". what do YOU think is the CONNECTION between the name hunger and the competition THAT is essentially "human hunting gangs" who are hunting humans. the name seems wrong?

i noticed a possible explanation but what do YOU think is the reason and meaning of this name?

my answer is the EXTRA ENTRIES due to HUNGER, for "risk more probable selection" that the hungry will participate in danger.

Its explained in the novels, the winning district wins a year long of food, heat, and other rescources, while the other districts hunger or keep starving.

As well as the participants hunger in the games, as food is rare and only available due to sponsors or the giftbasket in the middle of the starting area.

if so it should be officially named food games, for the winner survived gets food. why did author choose the official name hunger?

You have to ask that Suzanne Collins. Why chose that name.

Technically she could have named the games something completely different, like Survivor Games, Battle Royale, Colloseum Games, Murder Games...

Maybe google it, if you are lucky Suzanne Collins gave an interview and answered that question.

It's a competition for food. If you win, you and your district would be gifted lots of food from the Capitol
