Shows like Courage the Cowardly Dog, Billy & Mandy, Codename: Kids Next Door, Chowder, Flapjack, etc? Those were great shows back in the day.

Who remember these shows from back in the day?

Because the creators of the shows have no creative minds. They can’t make up new ideas. It’s not just cartoons. It’s a lot of things. Think about it. Years ago they released new movies all the time. Now you never hear of a new movie that’s any good. They keep building on ideas from the past like Star Wars. How many more Star Wars movies can they make? Come up with a new idea. The same with super hero movies. It’s already been done, try something new. Also, look at the auto industry. They brought back the charger and bronco because they can’t think of new ideas. The mustang and Camaros are designed to look like the retro version.
Todays kids honestly have smartass mouths and act too grown for cartoons. They probably wouldn't be able to handle the amazing shit we had
Exactly my point , these kids way too smart and grown that they rather do tik toks and be on phones nowadays instead being kids playing toys and be outside to play. i feel they won’t have shows of quality like we did in the next 10-20 years from now to remember that were actually great with us but shows that’s out now are lacking and not even real cartoons or shows.
I think that was an era when Cartoon Network was an up and coming Network, and let a lot of animators be creative with what they were putting out.. Being more experimental.. Cartoon Network was in the early 00s what Nickelodeon was in the early 90s for cartoons.. They took on more ambitious animators and storytellers.. I don't know why they stopped it..
Right man, I guess times changes and it’s too bad they don’t to do that as much now. Maybe when CN started getting really big it got harder to take chances on weirder ideas? Or maybe the dudes in charge now aren't as into letting people experiment. But those old Cartoon Network shoes really stood out cause everything felt so different.
Yeah, especially shows like Codename Kids Next door and Ed, Edd, and Eddy.. Two of the most unique cartoons I've seen from the three big Networks (Nick, Disney, and CN).. Lol..

I don't know, back in what day?
I've heard of Courage but I doubt I've ever seen it. I like good cartoons: Tom & Jerry, Warner Brothers, Hannah-Barbera, The Fleisher Brothers, Tex Avery, Bob Clampett. From about `72 onwards, cartoons got stupid and cheesy as all hell so, I stopped watching them.
Back around the late 90s and early-late 2000s to early 2010s was what considered the golden age of Cartoon Network and afterwards, it went downhill. I’m old school myself as I watch the old classic cartoons like Tom and Jerry, and old cartoon no one remembers called Gabby, You're not wrong man, those classic cartoons from the 40s-60s were the golden age for sure. Stuff now just doesn't compare.
Tom & Jerry will always be the GOATs, those shorts were art. And I love me some Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck too, man Warner Bros. knew how to make me laugh.
Tex Avery definitely pushed the envelope with some of the crazy shit he came up with. Dude was a genius. Even the really old Fleischer stuff like Betty Boop still holds up.
I'll give Hannah-Barbera some credit for making cartoons I watched as a kid, like Scooby Doo and Flintstones. But yeah once the 70s hit it felt like they were just pumping out crap to sell toys or some shit.
Anyway, bottom line - they just don't make 'em like they used to. Those oldschool guys were true artists. I'll take a Porky Pig short over some dumb CGI show any day of the week.
I keep asking everyone when THE day is but nobody will tell me.
I might've seen Gabby but I'm not sure. I know there was a goat named Gabby in some old WB cartoons.
I used to have a HUGE collection of cartoons on VHS until 4 years ago.
Did you ever see any of the old Fritos commercials with the Frito Bandito? That was Tex, too! I think he also did the animated Raid commercials.
I hated the Popeye stuff shortly after Seymour Knightel got his hands on them. He COMPLETELY changed everything and made them really cheesy! The first bunch that he took over on were still a good bit like what Max & Dave had been doing but then he switched it all up! There was a third set in the late `50's that was also kinda dumb but kinda cool, too. They added the Sea Hag, the Goons and Swee' Pea could actually talk.
I remember when I first saw Betty Boop as a baby, I got a look at the huge bizarre shaped head and started crying because she scared me so much!! Now, I love those cartoons!!
I think the last HB show that I paid attention to was The Funky Phantom. I watched a few episodes of it but got bored with it and the rest of their shit quickly, after that. The Hair Bear Bunch, The Grape Ape, Squiddly! I then I find out THEY were the creators of THE SMURFS!! HOLY SHIT!! BOTTOM OF THE BARREL!! Their best late era stuff was the The Impossibles, Shazam, The Banana Splits, Scooby Doo, The Fantastic 4, The Herculoids, Jonny Quest, etc. etc..
Even worse is when modern day people try to make new shorts of old characters in modern settings and with modern clothes, etc. It just doesn't work! Or, when they make a baby version of them!
There were a COUPLE modern cartoons that I kinda liked but still never paid much attention to them. Ren & Stimpy, Two Dumb Dogs, the remakes of Secret Squirrel. At least THAT ONE, they actually got right!! When I first saw the modern stuff, it looked and sounded exactly like the originals! I think, only the theme song was different.
Right right, but Gabby was the one with that guy with the green hat with Max Fleischer, a lot of people don’t remember, I grew up with those old school cartoons
I probably saw him but I'd have to see it again to know. If I did see him, it was decades ago.
Another one I remember as a kid was Maxwell Of The Inkwell. Max was a clown that lived in an ink bottle. Someone would take the squeezer off the top of the bottle and squeeze it and Max would fall out. At the end of the cartoon, he'd jump back into the bottle and the squeezer would be put back on either by Max or the hand at the beginning. I haven't seen that since the early `60's!
I never wasted my time with cartoons when I was a kid, let alone now.
