I remember us being on our way to Las Vegas. I was sitting in the back of my dad's Buick Grand National with the windows down... and the wind was blowing my hair all over the place. This song was playing, and I still listen today.
My mum's into 90s rock and my dad's a metal head. The songs that have clung on include everything Guns n Roses and Offspring, as well as the rare track I can tolerate from my dad's side.
Probably my favourite is Spare Me The Details by Offspring. The man explains how he's been cheated on by his girlfriend and the utter anger, shame and regret that comes with it. Especially from his 'helpful' friends constantly telling him the details about it. The irritation you can hear in the lead's voice is so addictive.
And I feel so dumb
That I could ever trust her
That someone else fucked her
Then just walked away
And I don't really wanna know
So don't tell me anymore
Plus the song that can get everyone in my family bopping their heads, Wrong Side of Heaven by Five Finger Death Punch.

I grew up on a healthy diet of classic 60s and 70s, heavy metal, progressive rock and jazz fusion and all of it stuck. It gave me an appreciation and respect for real musicians, song construction and arrangements.
my mother would play the guitar and also sing this one to me... even when I was in the womb, lol...

but is not just this one... there's an entire closet of all kinds of vinyl, and all of the music they used to, and still listen to, from time to time... both in Spanish and English as well, few other languages
three things they've always liked and shared... music, coffee and... baseball, lol
My dad had what I consider great taste in music and turned me on to so many good artists. One that is now less famous and that most people do not know or remember but whom I listen to frequently is this one:

Jeez. My Great Grandparents. C-Jam Blues by Duke Ellington. This kind of music confounded the Japanese and Germans and helped win WW2. And many band leaders were BLACK...in the 1940's.
https://www.youtube.com/embed/G0q9HB40BI4Damn I didn't know that that was a Beatles song.. All this time. Lmao..
My mother almost exclusively played Christian songs when I was growing up.. Lmao..
But I always used to hear her sing the chorus to this song.
https://www.youtube.com/embed/Q9C2i_Z2ETAMost of the nineties music. Both of my parents were big into music from the nineties. Anything from rap to pop to alternative music. So I still like some of their stuff.
On the B side of my dad's old Beatles Revolver album tape that he recorded from records was the two songs that introduced me to Creedence Clearwater Revival and the Rolling Stones, still two of my favorites songs today.
