I think I’m too unable to suspend disbelief to take them seriously. Jump scares…. alright. “You got me.” But that’s not entertaining to me. Anything supernatural, I don’t believe in or need to see to believe, or it’s just a known myth. Psychos hunting me down, or kidnapping me and torturing me or something…. absolutely astronomical odds that I’d ever be a victim of that. So it’s just like “what am I supposed to be scared of here?” And no matter what, I’m always, always, ALWAYS aware I’m watching a movie and none of this is going to affect me in reality, so I think I’m just not wired to respond in the way I’m needed to in order to appreciate it.
Watch the original Carrie

I love horror but I love more the slow burn type without so many jump scares and more "creepy/disturbing" than "scary", like it leaves you with a very bad feeling after that's very thought-provoking and has me ruminating on it.
@7Phoenix7 💯I think the effect lingers a lot longer, like a lasting sense of dread. Psychological horror might be my absolute favorite, especially when it involves an unreliable narrator. I like body horror as well like Cronenberg, often with a dash of sci-fi. Also love when historical fiction combines with horror (VVitch, e. g.). I love this opening scene so much from VVitch of a man so devout in his religious beliefs that even the Puritans banish him and his family:

@7Phoenix7 It's definitely a slow burn and kind of a family drama about a family going hysterical (somewhat like Hereditary) mixed in with some supernatural elements. I can't recommend it enough but it seems to be hit or miss. Some people absolutely adore it as I do and some really don't care for it at all. If you love historical fiction though, I think there's a good chance you'll enjoy it!
I do but I will often suffer later as I am prone to nightmares lol
lol 😂 if its a scary movie right before bedtime i just try to think about happy things ☺️
I like scary movies, but not the blood-bath kind, more so the suspenseful kind that have a good story to it.
