What’s the most money you’ve ever spent on something you didn’t need?

For me it definitely has to be one of my LEGO Jurassic World Mocs, the Malta Chase scene. It has almost 2,000 pieces so it was around $170. Kind of amazed I saved up that much a little 12 or 13 year old, it’s like a Godzillasaurus Rex. Speaking of that, quite a while ago I planned to build a MINISCALE accurate Legenrdary Godzilla, but since now we have Minus One, I will make that Godzilla instead, whenever the time comes. He's scarier, cooler, and most importantly, way smaller. That means much less parts and less money to spend.

By needs I mean the basic things like nutritious sustenance, a new toilet plunger if yours broke, fabric softener, things like that.

Hmmm…well, I blew a good $2k on a night out with a chick I was dating about 20 years ago. Got us Red Sox-Yankees tickets up in the then-new Green Monster seats, I think I dropped like $1,400 on those, then I think I brought an $1,100 knot with me just to show off, lmao, and probably peeled another $500-600 off just buying us dinner, drinks, I was buying her all kinds of hats and t-shirts, etc. So that was pretty frivolous.

Also, probably spent $2k+ on a trip to Austin, Texas to see Guns N Roses at the Austin City Limits music festival. The ticket was whatever, but I also had to fly down there, and I stayed at a nice hotel right near 6th Street so I could party and then just walk back to my room. Just really wanted to see GNR, and I was having this weird feeling that they’d break up or someone important would die, so I said fuck it. Then I ended up seeing them right at home a couple years later when they came around, and from a way better vantage point than half a mile away at ACL, haha. But I had a great time in Austin, so it was money well spent. Definitely wasn’t needed though.

Anyways they weren’t “expensive,” but it was a stupid and impulsive buy. The muffins because hadn’t had lemon in a longgg time. They were HUGEEEE lol and the lingerie was my first time trying that and I was like “I HAVE TO TRY IT.”

It was truly for me more than anything, but also my partner. I think part of me just wants lingerie to say “I have lingerie!” Lmao but yeah. It’s conflicting but I’ll put it down for the expensive treat I bought myself because it was all uneconomical and unnecessary.

Side note: I think you’re (this wouldn’t be uncommon) an old user who made a new account on here? I say that because very few comic and other types of artists who are guys and claim to be the best of their trade on here. There’s a theme underlying here as well. Yes true, I first used my school account and it got deleted or something, so I then made this one. In terms of my “vibe”, that’s just the algorithm growing. I’m constantly updating as the years go like an AI learning what makes humans human at a rapid rate. In my old account it showed my actual age and in this one I typed in a false one just to avoid any petty guideline enforcements.

Not sure tbh, I don't keep track.
I also tend to view luxuries and aesthetics as needs for mental health and artistic inspiration, so things like collectables, tech, etc are needs to me.
Back when I still collected lego sets, they were fairly cheap, even the big star wars sets, so its definitely not those. And I tend to snag deals often, so I'm almost never paying normal retail prices for things.

My painting over the field stone fire place mantle is a Norval Morrisseau which I spent 4.8 K. It isn't something I needed, but it was definitely something I wanted.

So, as an artist, I'm curious, what makes you choose to pay 4.8k for a painting? There doesn't seem to be any measurement of quality or subject matter when people buy art, its just like random numbers applied to random art, so I don't know what price to put on my works.

@TheSpaceGnome It is a relatively large canvas measuring 6 ft by 4 ft. I asked the artist to complete it specifically for my space, so it was a request rather than something at a gallery.
