I love these classics but Gladiator is one of my favorite things ever.

For sure! I'm actually okay with historical inaccuracies galore. It's all about an interesting fiction for me. I even like Braveheart as a guilty pleasure.

The way I look at it with historical fiction is that it's at least more interesting to me than a lot of pure fantasy. There's a sense of a more grounded culture, as with sci-fi, but I'm solely interested in it as fiction but just want something that seems a bit more grounded that magic and dragons (unless we're talking Excalibur; I love Excalibur).

Documentaries are what I love to watch and enjoy watching when I really want to learn the history along with reading books and, lazily these days, a hasty internet search or two. But I like that historical fiction isn't too constrained by the actual history and only uses it as a sort of inspiration.
