How can someone consider Thanos from Avengers a hero?

I know some of you are going to say it's fiction and i should not take it seriously and believe me i am not but what nagged me was the people justifying what Thanos did as reasonable.
I mean how is that reasonable? What if someone had such an arsenal that could destroy a lot of people and they used it, would that be ok?

No sane human thinks that thanos is a hero, its just the lunatics that push the myth of overpopulation that think that.
There are roughly 8 billion people, but you could fit them all in a single US state, and the earth can support hundreds of trillions easily. The real issue causing resource scarcity is monopolies, greed, artificially induced deserts (paved road cities with no greenery or wildlife), a lack of megafaunal species being bred in most countires, and national borders.

People forget just how large the earth is and just how much life used to be on it. If increasing populations were an issue, then they would have been an issue before humans even existed.

Look at locusts, they are stereotyped as consuming so much that they leave areas barren, yet grasshoppers have survived millions of years and diversified into thousands upon thousands of species and outnumber us in population.

If I remember rightly the comic version of Thanos wanted to erase half of all life because he was literally simping for Death... who is an attractive lady in the Marvel Multiverse.
I guess the film-makers of the MCU wanted to try and make his motivations more relatable... but in doing so, they just made him completely fucking stupid, and the entire course of the films was nonsense.
I mean if Thanos had really wanted to deal with universal overpopulation, preferably without being stopped by outraged people who want to live... then instead of killing 50% of all life, he should have made 50% of all life sterile. The hilarious thing is that there would have been far less fight-back against such a plan, but its long-term impact would have been far greater.

The people that say Thanos was right are usually people who have lost complete hope and faith in not only international leadership but people as a whole. They’re usually psuedo-intellectual philosopher types that consider themselves superior to the average person when they’re just pretentious and don’t understand that Thanos could have just as easily solved the resource problem by not halving the populations of the universe, but doubling the resources.

because compared to other movie villains, he's not just "evil" for no reason. he actually does have a quite good moral code and goals he wants to reach which are in perfect alignment of that moral code and he is willing to sacrifice everything to reach that goal. so he has a lot of the characteristics that an actual hery typically has. which in my opinion makes him a great antagonist. because if you look at things from his perspective, they do actually make some sense.

a good movie villain is relatable even if you disagree with them. and thanos in my opinion is very relatable.

I am not saying he is not relatable, he is but the steps taken by him don't make him a hero.
Sure he may not be a villain but he definitely is not a hero.

well just cause you do not agree with his ultimate goal and cause you place your morals differently than him. but he fullfills every aspect an actual hero needs to qualitfy as a hero.

And what is that definition of "actual hero" according to you?

a person who has an idea of what's good or bad, realizing there's something happening that is bad in their view and then doing everything in their power even risking everything, even their very own life to fight for their vision of good against the bad and all adversity they'll face on that way. that's what thanos does exactly and that's what his enemies are doing too. just their ideas of "what the good thing should be" differs. so they can't work together.

I haven't actually gotten around to watching the movies. What interests me from what I've seen about him is he thinks he's right and potentially he could be given his wider view of reality and the universe. Which means it's a matter of perspective as to whether he or his enemies are on the good side. It makes for a far more interesting character.
In reality, we'd be talking about one bunch of humans fighting over resources with another set. One side or the other will be fighting in our interests. It's just not the same.

But if we stop drawing the line at some point and start doing what we feel is necessary without thinking of the consequences that others have to suffer, it will be a very dangerous world.

because he had good intentions... and he was random not targeting any group or ethnicity... i can't do murder but if people are crowded and he killed half then the survivors in the story would see him as a hero for fixing the problem.

his "rightness" isn't because of his morals and ethics but his logic and rationale

"right" is subjective and villains can be right sometimes

more often than not, it's the villains who tend to be more right than the heroes (not because of their methods but because of the truth)

heroes are the ones upholding the status quo even if the status quo promotes unfairness and unseen injustice whereas the villains are the ones who seek to change it
