How do you be careful of pickpockets?

I’m off to vivid lights festival next weekend with my best friends. The police on the news said to be careful of pickpockets. I’m afraid I’m very naive. How does one be careful of pickpockets, besides not dressing up too much and not using a bag without separate zip up money compartments?

I have been to places and festivals where they said pickpocketing was a thing. So one thing i did was wear shorts under my pants and kept my wallet in my shorts’s pocket. Some of the females i knew would keep their personal belongings in their bras. Another option is have clothes with zippers or if that is not possible then going the Boomer route and getting a fanny pack can conceal it under our shirt

I just put my wallet in my front jeans pocket which is hard for me to get it out so much more difficult for a pickpocket then my back pockets.

Very few in USA have that skill anymore. European thieves are experienced tho.
