These people steal and then sell it on the sidewalk within sight of the store. If caught they are mostly charged and released. I guess crime pays. 😖
First, you need to understand that this was done ON PURPOSE. George Soros poured money into major elections for a long time with only limited results, so he figured out that he would be able to push his agenda more efficiently by funding lower-level candidates, and so that's what he's been doing for the last 12 years or so. He's been funding state senators and representatives, as well as mayors and district attorneys. And when one of them needs to be replaced, he always funds an even more radical leftist to replace them.
Defunding police, vastly raising the thresholds for what is considered a "serious crime", "bail reform" (not holding people charged with crimes), and backing DAs that refuse to prosecute "protected groups" are all Soros mandates, and his various foundations (of which he has MANY) have been funding all of this. The people GETTING the money want to keep getting it, and because they are able to live a high lifestyle, they literally don't care what happens to the normal middle-class (much less lower class) people, because they feel they are better than those people.
You won't fix any of this unless you get rid of these far-left candidates and reverse these policies that so obviously have made things worse instead of better. Note that you don't see these problems in red states, because in those states, crime is punished.
For shoplifting specifically, I would say that shoplifting anything over $50 total means (the first time) an automatic sentence of 80 hours of community service - cleaning streets, scrubbing graffiti, painting buildings, etc. Anything over $500 (between theft and damage) would be a major misdemeanor and subject to a year in jail. Anything over $5000 (in theft and/or damage) would be a felony, and organized theft rings would add a conspiracy felony.
I would further pass a law that prevents criminals from being able to sue their victims, which would include severely restricting the ability to sue businesses for injuries from their security guards and loss-prevention staff. This would allow these people to actually do their jobs, while because of current idiotic laws, they are prohibited from actually doing anything because of insurance concerns. If criminals could not sue, then the insurance concerns would go away.
Essentially, you have to stop rewarding crime, which is exactly what the left has done, and is why the West Coast and NYC (among others) are imploding.

Short answer, the law makers and politicians support the thiefs and go out of their way to make it possible.
Yeah I just saw a video about this. Prop 43?( 40something I don't know) in Los Angeles raise the misdemeanor dollar value from like $200 to $900, so now as long as what you still is under 900 worth it's a slap on the wrist and they can appeal that away too, steal over 900 worth and you can appeal your felony down to misdemeanor.
Right now there's a grocery store in California that wants to close cause it's getting robbed blind but the state is literally forcing them to stay open cause their the last store. The is demanding the store to find a replacement before they leave, as if anyone would willingly open shop there.

This happens because there’s a demand. If they couldn’t sell what they steal it would be pointless. So why is there a demand? People can’t afford to purchase from stores anymore. The prices of everything is too high and a lot of people can’t find jobs or jobs that pays enough. That’s the root of the problem and it needs to be dealt with to reduce these types of crimes. It needs to be affordable for people to buy from stores and people need reasonable income that can comfortably support themselves and their families. This is something for politicians to find solutions to.
What the stores can do while this is still going on is put valuble items behind locked doors, hire security guards and limit the amount of people who can come in to the store together. So to not let in groups of people.
My way would stop it instantly, but it wouldn't be deemed morally ethical, or legal for that matter.
I'd have them put into stocks in the middle of the street for a day, so anyone can do what they like to them! BUT, and here's the good bit. There would be stewards charging the public a fee for say a minute to do whatever they like to them (no weapons) and ALL the proceeds would go to those they have stolen from.
I would love to see that happen to burglars first and foremost, but for shop theft? I guess it could work too!
Have security trained in ways to stop this using as little force as necessary and have laws allowing them to stop and detain shoplifters for the police. Equip security with pepper spray and tasers.
Reduce the dollar amount of theft for misdemeanor.
If companies are doing nothing to stop theft, insurancne companies will have to start charging more or stop reimbursing companies for "shrinkage"
Have two entrance doors about six feet apart. Have them made of shatter proof glass, and have security be able to shut and lock the doors to trap shoplifters between them.
There were effective punishments we did away with because "cutting someone's hand off or branding them as a thief is unbecoming and uncivilized"
Oh my Goaaaaawd!
Does this really mean that the super-rich owners of such stores are forced to drink less champagne and eat less caviar on a daily basis?
I am SO! shocked to see that greedy individuals are taking from greedy corporations...
they all must be rotten to the core to not bow or obey to the God/s of consumerism.
The end is nigh.
Taser the hell out of them until the cops get there to arrest them.
Guillotine off a hand. That would give them one more chance!
Declare open season on shoplifters. If you get caught you lose a finger. You get caught again you lose the whole hand
Higher penalties for organized crime, all of them should get jailtime and it will quickly drop
Shoot on sight and leave the bodies for the scavengers.
You give people enough money to live. And support when they're struggling with things. Then it'll go down.
As long as you are making crimes no longer crimes, just make killing thieves no longer a crime. Sounds like a quick solution.
Stuff like this should result in imprisonment.
Make security tags explosive, you steal and just become a cloud of red mist on the way out of the building
Armed guards. Signs posted- entry constitutes a waiver- and explaining that shoplifters will have their knees shot off.
well one thing that is very efective in stopping crimes is inhumane and draconian punishments. but you'll never litterally eliminate all crime.
Employ more security, I work in retail and we have no security guards at all now, I guess it costs more than writing off the theft losses,,,
Armored guards at the door that have authority to use deadly force.
Lock the bastards up. It's not rocket science. When did stealing cease to be a crime?
You stop it by putting criminals in prison for lengthy periods of time.
