Radiohead"s "How To Disappear Completely" is up there too.

Michael Longcor's "This Old Dog" springs to mind, for reasons you can probably guess from the title. Frank Zappa's "Watermelon in Easter Hay" is powerfully downbeat and sorrowful, especially in light of the fact that it's instrumental (even if you don't know the context from the opera). "Stones" from the later Ultima games is also hauntingly somber, and while it DOES have lyrics, you'll never hear them.

Billy Joel's "Goodnight Saigon" and "Leningrad" are up there, too.

I would go with Lazarus By David Bowie.

He wrote, recorded this as he was dying, during filming of the video he was informed the cancer was terminal. Two days after the album Blackstar was released, Bowie died.
