I recently heard the story behind Drops of Jupiter, by Train. I've always loved the song but the story behind it, is both sad and profound.

Train was ready to be dropped from their record label, because their last couple albums were flops. They gave them a month to come up with good songs or they weren't gonna renew their contract. Patrick's mom, his biggest supporter, had died of cancer and he was still heartbroken over his loss and was ready to call it quits. Then, after thinking about her, he fell asleep and woke up a few hrs later after she came to him in a dream. He remembered in his dream, she said, "I'm back in the atmosphere, but I'm not here to stay, I'm heading back to the Milky Way".
He got up and wrote the song.
