It is both good and bad. Studies show playing video games can contribute to poor sleep and impact attention, academic performance, mood, and wellbeing. Exposure to violent video games can contribute to aggressive behaviors in kids. Playing video games for long periods of time has also been linked with developing obesity.
Age-appropriate video games played in moderation can help young kids develop educationally, socially, and physically. As parents, we tend to focus more on the potential dangers than on the benefits of kids playing video games, But too much video game playing may cause problems. It's hard to get enough active play and exercise if you're always inside playing video games. And without enough exercise, kids can become overweight. Overdoing video games also could affect other important stuff, like friendships and how well a kid does in school.
Positive Effects of Video Games on Children's Brains Contrary to popular belief, video games can have positive effects on children's brains. Studies have shown that playing video games can improve cognitive function, including memory, attention, and decision-making skills.
True words. Too much sitting inside reading is bad for physical health also… there’s an interesting twist
More con than pro.
kids! lol…a lot more cons.
most of my students are really really great during lessons… so I allow them 15-20 minutes game time once they earn enough points on Fridays. They bring their seats next to their friends…they get really happy and I am happy that they enjoy spend that kind of time “with” their friends…
when it was time to clean up…some kids got angry!! That’s the part that freaks me out! It brings out so much anger from these kids who are normally very engage in learning and respectful.
On the whole there is nothing wrong with video games, gaming has been part of modern life since the 90’s. A bit like reading they are a release, however if over done and start taking over your life, then that’s a problem.
Now for kids, should they or should they not, the same applies to watching tv, reading, sports etc, it all needs to be in moderation and balanced. However they are also a release for the kid at school who is say bullied, or has no friends, what can they do once all school work is completed. That and when relatives visit and you really don’t want to be downstairs with everyone.
Parents need to be involved with their kids well being, this includes exposure to tv and gaming. Some games are good for creativity, for thinking, improving hand eye coordination. Admittedly I do have long gaming session on the likes of Baldurs Gate 3 but equally I have 10km runs, 3-4 hours archery, etc
Great synopsis 👏
To the people that said yes: Mario Kart is a ‘E’ Everyone game much like, a board game is a game designed for the whole family & their friends to duke it out in a fun activity which encourages being social, being focused, and encouraging good sportsmanship.
Should an 8 yr old kid be playing the latest COD or RDR2 or Battlefield 2042, no since they rated it on the both for ‘M’ Mature. Don’t banish ALL games for the child, follow the rating system.
P. S. Games don’t equal gun violence, people that really shouldn’t have their hands on a firearm get a hold of one then do acts of violence which is evil. Work towards regulations, background checks, mental health services expanded, and gun licenses. Don’t blame the games for society’s issues, blame the lack of change for the issues.
True words
@charliefretz329 Well I always aim for clarity & honesty in my responses especially as someone who grew up on video games. I learned a lot from games, to lose a piece of learning would be sad. I wouldn’t have found my true self without the medium along with the beautiful people I grew to know outside of the games. Point being, it takes so much more than games / fun to build character however it can be an outlet of expression of someone’s true self… Once you take it away, you take a piece of that child away same as if it were movies, tv shows, books, etc.

No I always see an argument that the news makes that it causes a violence.
My counter argument to that is always why am I not on the 9:00 news. 🤪
The funniest thing is Grand Theft Auto actually taught me some stuff like what depositing and withdrawing money is. Lol and that there are multiple bills that people have to pay from utilities to a whole bunch of other s***. Lol
Grand Theft Auto online be something else for those who don't know you pay bills in game and if you don't have the money they shut off your electricity and water in your house. Lol
I also learned what insurance was and that if you don't have money you're f*****. 😹
Inherently, no. But people, parents especially, need to know that game developers spent a great deal of time and money researching addictive traits. They’re literally designing games to be difficult to put down…. to be ADDICTIVE.
Obviously that’s not good. What’s worse is that, at least in the US, addiction is still widely misunderstood at the public level. Like many mental health issues, it’s talked about too little. So many people just don’t know what they’re feeling when they experience it, let alone what they’re seeing when they witness it. They least of all understand what to do about it, whether they’re the addict or it’s someone they care about.
Nah video games helped my son learn how to talk. His speech therapist acutally suggested them because games often help kids with speech
Awesome!
ONLY if they don't have the sense to know that it's all make-believe and they should NEVER try any of that for real! AND, if they don't get heavily addicted to it! I LOVE shooting pool and will play for hours but, I can also go very long periods of time without playing it. Last time I was at a pool table was at least 4 or 5 years ago. I played one game. The time before that was maybe 7 or 8 years ago.
I'm sure it depends on the content. There's no way anyone will ever convince me that violent video games don't make acting out violent behavior easier for people who already have a tendency for violent behavior.
I've seen the science on this subject. I get that consensus is that games don't make people more violent. But that just doesn't make any sense to me.
No. Children are bad for games.
The entire gaming industry is warped these days, frontloading everything, dumbing down the mechanics and generally catering to the lowest common denominator. The zoomers make up an ever-increasing proportion of the playerbase and they're notorious for having short attention spans and small minds.
Video games are not bad but the fact that kids justsiton their butts and just play video games and get no physical exercise is what is bad.
Truth there
As much as gory chainsaw shotgunning games are, research shows it doesn’t really have an effect on our behavior.
Thats been pre programmed by genetics and parenting. If Ted Bundy had better parents as a kid he most likely would not have killed women.
not games are bad... but time kids spend playing them can be damaging for their development
Not goats are mad... but the jam kids spread while playing them can be disastrous for their jam-making skills.
Anything is okay in moderation. The problem is when they don't know when to stop or are not told to their parents when to stop. I believe in limiting video game/TV/iPad time.
Depends. All day long? Not really. Get outside with me mini people. Get some air.
100% agree
@charliefretz329 😎🌲🌳🌴
@charliefretz329 & @Db Our generation used to be out in all weathers running about,. you just don't see it any more.. still. on the plus side, at least it means fewer broken windows.. or was that just me?
.🤐.
These young whipper snappers are missing out.
Yes they are.. Mind you they are probably still breaking windows... I saw a teenager drop a laptop last week.
lmfao
Yeah… they aren’t really living
Fair bit pricier these days.
indeed...
Yes. What they will need to find a better job and buy a new one 🥁
Oh I don't know.. Companies use to employ people to drop things on the floor. You know, stress testing. I reckon some kids are made for that job.
🤪Oh my. That would bug me.
Yes , not just kids but for men in general
There are a million productive yet fun things you can do rather than a stupid video game
No, video games are not bad for kids especially when you make wise choices, and kids need to have fun because it's healthy. Video Games is a hobby and well as entertaining.
Depends...
on the type of games, the age of the kids, the amount of time they spend playing, ...
depends entirely on the gme and how they put it into their daily lives
As long as the child isn't playing Grand Theft Auto or anything.
Games are just fine for kids.
It would depend on what game they play and how frequently. Plenty of studies show how video games can be beneficial for brain development and maintenance.
Yes and no. Parents need to monitor and be firm. That said, it can be a social activity and develop skills too
Yes they are cause they can make them violent
I think I turned out fine
A little derpy but yeah…

With all the blows you take Derp.. How about a new Id.. Derpy the human punchbag?

I’m good at what I do 😎
Awe. I just thought of a better one too. Eh. Saved for next time.
They normalize violence.
They definitely can
The vast majority of players can and do make the distinction between real and animated violence. Expose? Yes. Normalize? No
Only derpy kids
Ohhhh… snap
I just saw this lol brat
At least tag me
@sirderpsalot123 no it's more fun waiting for you to find it😂
bad parents can be bad for children...
Wisdom
Yes. They are addictive.
Addictions are trouble
Only when they swallow the dvd
some r bad for kids
Most likely yes
Let them play fortnite
That game is huge lol.
I don't think so
It depends on the gamea that they are playing.
Depends on the game.
