Is there such a thing as having someone plays for you on slot machines to win for you?

My boyfriend likes playing on slot machines at casinos, but he doesn't play often. He goes to casinos about twice a year. He introduced me to casinos since those are his happy places that he goes with his family and friends.

He let me alternate with him to hit the play buttons. At one point he asked me to insert his players card into a machine. A security officer walked over and asked us if everything was okay. I didn't understand what was going on since we didn't call for help.

I'm just curious. Is there such a thing that people can make other people play for them and win money for them? I thought it doesn't matter who clicks the play buttons, let's say if the 10th click would trigger a major win, it would anyway regardless of who clicks the button?

Typically when I clicked play that had (small) wins, he would keep the money, since he put in his dollar bills. When it was time to put in "my" money, he would give me more amount and say to split the money if I won something. I don't know if this is something to worry about?

He's been paying for all dates, starting from date #1 when we were getting to know each other and before being in a relationship. I've offered to pay and even put my credit card on the table, but he'd remove my card and say that if it's a date he's treating me.

Clarification: When I put "my" money, he would double my amount by giving me the same amount from his pocket, and say that we could split the money if I won something.
