Do you tell people how much you win at the casino?

One time I won a lot of money at the casino and I didn’t tell anybody about it. Not even my parents or siblings. It was under $6000 but over $1000.

like why is it anybody’s business that I won?

Rarely. I generally do not go to casinos for gambling because 1) now it's too expensive to bet; the minimums are too high and 2) I don't want to get sucked in; I know myself and I know better.

So, those rare times when I _do_ gamble (I think the last time was 24 years ago), I use cash and already assume it's gone. So, when it is gone, I walk away and don't feel to bad about it.

That said, I have walked away winning at least twice. I tell the story of how, when, and where I won, but primarily only to my wife.

The last time I gambled in a casino, around 2001 or 2002 at Turning Stone Casino, I was with my wife; she was participating at a convention for her work and I was tagging along. She was from the midwest and had never gambled before but I was a native NYer who bet on horses as a kid and had gambled before I met her. It was the afternoon, so a slow time in the casino. I had $60 in cash and I took her to a blackjack table so she could experience gambling in person. It was just us and the dealer. The minimum for the table was $5. With only $5 bets, we lost the $60 in about 5 minutes. We walked away. Sure, I lost $60, but it didn't bother me because that was the point. This was a teachable moment to see how quickly and easily you can lose so much money by gambling. She has never gambled since thus that time at Turning Stone was a life lesson well-worth the $60 I lost.
