Do Male R&B artists need better marketing or are fans not interested?

We get the music videos, live performances, tours, interviews, etc., but there is still a big disconnect. Granted, underground artists thrive in their respective communities, but on a mainstream level... I don't know 🤷🏾‍♂️

R&B is a pretty broad genre. In the past, there were plenty of male R&B artists, with a good share of female artists also. It's changed a lot over the years. I'm not sure what they are calling R&B these days. I haven't kept up.

To me it's kind of a cross-over, with swing, blues, soul and a tad of rock influences. It's not the beginnings of R&B, but I think of The Temptations and Smokey Robinson. I think of Motown, Stax and Chess records.

Nowadays it's not even recognizable. One thing for sure. It's lost it's soul. Software recording studio in a box took the soul and replaced it with digitization.

That's why I'm more into rock and Country. Male R&B artists seem ignored for the chicks, plus the genre is, well, girly.
