I thought that this was some kind of joke. I think Marvel is now in the endstge of the successful movies. They are just trying to squeeze every last dime out of the franchise.

I honestly don't care though it would have been nice if they did pick someone besides the guy who played Iron Man. That might confuse casual fans, even though in the comics technically Dr. Doom did become Iron Man for a short while, so there's that.

I actually looked this one up tbh. I do like watching comic book videos on YouTube and there was one about Dr Doom becoming Iron Man. I didn't watch it yet, but in response to your question I actually researched it.
I think RDJ helped get the MCU cinematic success off the ground so they feel they owe him I think. And I think RDJ just needs to stay busy to stay off the blow.
I have no real opinion on him playing Doom. But I think having multiple actors play multiple roles is a mistake. There's plenty of others put there that'd do the role justice. Also you have a hero playing a villain now.

Ever hear of "jumping the shark"? That was an episode on "Happy Days" many years ago, in an attempt to increase ratings... it didn't work. Dr Doom is doomed!
The new direction the MCU is going sounds like a big mess. Why have a replacement to Thanos? Marvel went for decades without a big bad wolf villain. Every month Stan Lee could come up with a new storyline. Truthfully Doctor Doom has been done already. A big bad villain is no substitute for good writing.

Tony Stark died tragically and heroically. It was a great storyline and a food ending of a movie franchise that had entertained us for over a decade. It made record amounts of money aamnd made multi millionaires out of RDJ , Chris Evans and others.
Tbh I don’t mind it, but I hope they have some sort of in universe explanation of sorts. He was good as Ironman, he can probably be good as Doctor Doom.
