What do you think of the Linkin Park Return?

With the tragic death of Chester Bennington, it was also all over for Linkin Park, however now with a new drummer and a new lead vocalist, they are returning, with a new album due out and an international tour.

When a group loses its lead singer it is often hard to recover, however some do move on, such as AC/DC with Bon Scott replaced by Brian Johnson.

As a sort of secondary question what groups do you think continued with their journey after replacing their Lead vocalist.

Linken park was never a great band to me , I like some of their stuff but I can easily do without it to be honest with you , it’s sad the singer passed away but if the band wants to move on without him and keep the band going , I am sure Chester wouldn’t mind and would want them to continue on. Kind of what Alice In Chains did after Layne passed away , I know it’s not the same without Layne but Alice In Chains is still a great band and their new stuff is actually pretty damn good , So some people will like it and some won’t , so it’s a chance any band can make , when they lose a member that was amazing to the band. I am a big Rush fan , and after Neil Peart passed away, I was devastated among thousands of other fans as well including the band , Geddy and Alex said they can’t move on anymore with Rush without Neil behind the drum kit because they know it wouldn’t be the same without him. Plus Geddy and Alex are old now and I don’t blame them for their decision. But if they ever decided to release more music together , I would be all about it lol

Very disappointing. I can't believe they got this Emily chick to be the singer. I really think the band should've just broken up after Chester died. He was the stand-out voice and feature of the group, so without him it's just really not the same. Haven't listened to anything else from them since he died.

I'm all good with the return, but I can't get behind the new lead singer, Emily. Her voice is kinda grating to me. I've listened to her on a few songs and I'm just not a fan. I hope it gets better over time or maybe I just can't replace Chester's vocals in my head with hers.

I think or hope it will gradually adjust to the new music they are releasing. I am same with Chester, I do a sort of double take and realise it’s missing.

I cannot move on from it to be honest. It is a huge part of my teenage years and I am unable to let go. I mean, the girl has an amazing voice, I just cannot let go and I can no longer listen to the band anymore unless it is their older songs.

It's not Linkin Park without Chester. I completely agree with you, that aside from a few exceptions like AC/DC and Iron Maiden, usually if a band changes its lead singer, it practically becomes a cover band. I would even argue that changing out other members no longer makes it the true band. But generally, the singer is the most important.

Yeah it’s always a hard movie, the replacement must also be different enough so it’s not a case of just trying to clone the singer. Time will tell on this one, that and the tour

Iron Maiden worked, because they didn't really have any big hits until Number of the Beast was released, but AC/DC is truly a unique case.

That's the reason Queen won't record or rerecord any songs with Adam Lambert. But I still think people are much more accepting today then they were in the past. I saw footage of Deep Purple getting heckled after Richie Blackmore was replaced.

I guess its fine. its not unheard of for other famous bands to keep going despite the singer or a major band member either dying or quitting the band. Journey for example.. Steve Perry used to be the lead singer then he stepped down and others took his spot.
