Linkin Park fans, what are your thoughts on the new Linkin Park rumors?

For those who do not know, there are rumors going around that Linkin Park plans to come back with a female vocalist to replace Chester Bennington. What are your thoughts on this?

I have mixed feelings on this.

On one hand, I believe Linkin Park is finished. Chester and Mike's synergy was the soul of Linkin Park. It will be very difficult for them to go back to the type of music that made them so good. If they do return, they need to go back more to rock/alternative style and less of the poppy direction they were heading in their last 2 albums.

On the other hand, I feel like a female replacing Chester is the best approach. IF they make a comeback, it would be a mistake to put another male vocalist in Chester's place. He would always be compared to Chester and there would be subconscious expectations from fans for a return of Linkin Park's old style and a male vocalist not living up to Chester's level could doom the band for good by trapping them in a loop where they cannot move in a new direction. At least with a female, it would shake up the expectations of fans and give Linkin Park an easier avenue to go a different direction.

I grew up with Linkin Park. As I was bullied and isolated a lot as a kid, their music really got me through rough times.

I’m not with it. I’ve never really appreciated bands replacing members and keeping the name. It’s not the same band. Change the name. Particularly if, as you suggest, there’s a change in style or tone of their music. Linkin Park was big enough that fans will still listen to the new stuff without using the name for brand recognition.
Prophets of Rage is a great example. Public Enemy and Rage Against the Machine joined members to become a new band with a new name, but the same style and tone fans came to expect from both.

Uh, I’m pretty sure it said just for their reunion tour, not entire albums. They definitely need a vocalist what do you expect them to perform with just no one?

It’s not about the vocalist living up to Chester. Obviously they can’t do that because Chester is dead. And has been dead for some time now. But Linkin Park wants to go on tour and they’re allowed to. They said the same about Trujillo when he joined Metallica, said he’d never live up to Cliffs bass potential, and he didn’t, he established his own sound.

Now stop whining about it and if you don’t like it just don’t go to the concert if it’s such a big deal.

A little unhinged there? Or low level ability to read? Nowhere did I say it was Chester's band or that whoever comes next (if there is a next) would be unaware of the shoes they are trying to fill. The entire point of the question was to hear what people thought about Linkin Park rumors, not to hear your personal attack over the owner of an opinion. Nowhere did the question ask about feedback on my username (which, by the way, is a product of a joke with friends). And you also tried to imply politics by saying I am gullible over my username when politics has nothing to do with this question. You have really made yourself look unhinged.
