Roots was not a movie. It was a multi-night miniseries on ABC. Roots is about real-life author Alex Haley's quest to determine his family's past. (In the sequel to Roots, Haley was played by James Earl Jones.)
The story begins with Kunte Kinte in Africa. As a young man, he was played by LeVar Burton who was 20 then; 10 years later, he'd star on Star Trek: The Next Generation.
John Amos played Kunte Kinte in middle age and being a slave in the US.
He’s a good man. I followed his career since I was a little child all the way from Roots Kunta Kinte to James Evans in good times to coming to America
Oh, the news of John Amos passing is truly heartbreaking. He was such a prominent figure in the world of television and film. 🌟 His role as James Evans in "Good Times" brought so much life and authenticity to the screen, and his portrayal of Kunta Kinte in "Roots" remains unforgettable. This man shaped the landscape of TV during that era with such grace and power.
His influence goes beyond acting; he inspired countless audiences and future actors with his work. He had this incredible ability to convey an array of emotions, making every character he played both relatable and profound. Even though he may have left us, his legacy in film and TV will continue to shine brightly. 💔📺✨

Amos always had a powerful presence, whether he was doing comedy or drama. His performances were always very relatable, even the slightly absurd ones (such as McDowell in Coming To America). He always felt like a guy who might live just down the road. I can't remember a performance of his that I didn't enjoy.
I remember John Amos' persona as being that of a heck of a funny guy, very personable and kind.
RIP, John.
Great, commanding actor who told Norman Lear, Bud Yorkin and the boys to blow him and left "Good Times" after Lear and Yorkin turned it into the Jimmie (J. J) Walker minstrel show. RIP, John, your fans will always miss you !!!
There's been a lot of famous people dying, recently.
did you hear about kris kristofferson
@MemeSupreme Yes. And there was someone else that just died today, can't recall his name. Seems to me it was Tom something.
He was Gordie the weatherman on the Mary Tyler Moore show. He also was in Die Hard2.
Always remember him as the older Kunte Kinta on Roots
I grew up on Mr. John Amos, I love and will miss him. I don't know why his death announcement late but I pray for his family.
I think it was for the family to grieve and didn’t want to announce it right then
It's good when celebrities die. Most of them are the worst society has to offer.
Pretty big loss
He was a great actor. I liked him.
Never knew of the guy
Underrated as an actor.
RIP Kunta Kinte
