But what surprises me is that she seems to have only one reference song, or at least I only know one song by her as being a real "classic", whereas we play a lot of American songs here.
But maybe in the US her songs are everywhere lol

I don't listen to her music and wouldn't recognize it if I did, but I had the same question and read about her years ago. She is a smart woman who has made savvy and strategic decisions. She has a decent voice that she has worked very hard to develop and create a signature sound, her music has broad appeal and is easy to pick up, and she had supportive parents and a dream that she was determined to pursue. She created a persona of vulnerability and relatability that connected her to a very loyal fan base.
Her music isn't really my thing, but I do admire hard work and determination. She has put in the work and become an icon. It's impressive.
Copying other people's songs that were hits so she is riding them to success. Frankly, I think Wham did "Next Christmas" way better than Swift who just copied them.
https://www.youtube.com/embed/KhqNTjbQ71AFrom crazy like minded women like her who more than likely think men are trash. Those who have been through bad relationships, whether it was father fault or not they more than likely blame the dude. There’s a reason why she’s 34 but isn’t married or doesn’t have kids. She has major issues. The prettier girl is who’s much older, still not married w no kids the mor problems she has. Because let’s face it men gravitate toward beauty, so if someone’s beautiful they don’t have much trouble getting men to come their way. Now w that said something about her personality is making them overlook her beauty that they’re not willing to commit to her.
She’s keeping the 2000’s and 2010’s pop alive (aka white girl music)
The reason she’s so successful is because she has a monopoly on that category. No one else is making songs like this these days

I believe her songs stir up emotions in young people, particularly women, that they can relate to and personalize. When you tap into base feelings, you can get a lot of fans. E. g., in the USA, Trump taps into people's fears and anger then greenlights it, and he's got a lot of fans. Music can work the same way. The huge difference though, and why TS has billions of fans world wide, is that she's a decent, generous and apparently kind person. That will make everything you do seem more attractive and add to your success.
I think by "reference song" and "classic" you mean "hit". Which song is it? Is it, "Shake It Up"? That's the most popular one here.
Didn't France pass a law limiting the number of American songs played by French radio stations?
I don't know. Good marketing I guess. She's been around for quite a while and the record labels did an excellent job of making her a teen icon and sex symbol.
I think her music sucks though, and she's unattractive if I'm quite frank with you
Most of her fans are women and young girls. There are few female role models, and she comes across as one, a wholesome girl who has made a name for herself, even though people know she has many failed relationshjps.
I don’t listen to her music. I know that her success is due to the easy, catchy lyrics heart break songs that young kids like. She is also raised by 2 very successful/smart parents who direct her how to build her music and business success.
She appeals to the brain-dead masses that love adore churned-out, auto-tuned spotify fodder.
the haters...
I've heard a whole lot more about Taylor Swift from people who hate her, than people who actually like her and love her and her music...
Her success comes from hard work& song writing and appealing to a large variety of young white girls to muddle aged white women.
Talent! She has many popular songs that many are buying. No way that she could not be a success.
A lot of friends like her as a woman, but don't really listen to her music
Lack of talented competition. During the New Wave days, she would have been lost in the crowd..
She is not a terrible singer or performer and generally plays music that is not complex. Most of today's listeners prefer stuff like that, apparently.
she’s beautiful and very talented. And yeah her songs are everywhere.
Her fan base originally are 13 year old girls or younger.
In a few more years she won't be as popular unless she has now switched to more adult type of music.
Itvis manufactured by the big entertainment machine.
massive promotions from her Hollyweird elitist friends and managers
Ehhh. I hear her songs playing everywhere. I don't have much of an opinion of her, though, not the kind of music I listen to.
I am similarly vaguely puzzled.
