Hands down the picture they assigned to this question "friends" was lame as all hell. I blame human retardation on that show and other canned laughter shows just like it. You take away the laugh track and it's just psycho and cringe. Like watch this real quick.

Do you see what I mean? I don't think a human brain is going to expand in any way but negatively on that crap. There simply is no substance there. Mold can't even grow unless it has some form of substrate.

Consider the meaning of iconic. "Relating to or of the nature of an icon; regarded as a representative symbol or as worthy of veneration." Most of the shows mentioned here were iconic because they were venerated by most. Their popularity earned the actors, writers, producers, etc. millions of dollars. Everyone is entitled to their opinions of what is overrated or bad, but many of the opinions here show that the person expressing that opinion is out of touch with what is funny or important. I dislike some of the shows mentioned, but I recognize that many like them.

Big Bang Theory isn’t even funny. The “jokes” are just references to nerd culture, they’re not funny in nerd culture, just references to it. Not to mention the whole Sheldon character and how he’s not only blatantly autistic but that autism is the biggest joke about who he is. They didn’t need to make a show about him as a child, or spin offs from that spin off. They’re all pretty shitty people, and if the characters are all terrible people I generally don’t enjoy it.

Seinfeld. Its style of storytelling and humor (especially humor- I can't tell you many times I tried to watch it and ended up staring blankly at the screen; wondering not "wait, why was that joke funny?" but "wait, why was that a joke"?) appealed POWERFULLY to people of slightly above average intelligence; those of us in the "normal", "stupid", and "genius" categories were just confused.

Funny the image of Friends is used. I found that to be the most over-rated garbage on TV. The writing was just awful.. the story was all over the map from season to season, and for people in their 20's they mostly acted like people in their 30's who didn't quite grow up yet.

I never really liked any of the sitcoms. The closest exception is All In The Family which I watched on occasion and enjoyed. It had a strong cultural theme which I found interesting.

I assume you're primarily talking about sitcoms, and if so I think most of them were overrated.

some episodes of Friends are brill, but like everything they overplayed their hand and drove it into the ground with boring episodes full of joke-like substances. Monica was the worst

they're about to do it again with this Mandy and Georgie show, they had genius comedy on their hands and instead of developing it into what it could have been they turned it into another inane laughtrack show with the same old worn out jokes they've been regurgitating since I Love Lucy. the mother on that show is a zero-talent
