To directly answer your question, my gut tells me some early Hollywood movie stars like Humphrey Bogart and Cary Grant because they were on screen and visible. I'm sure so many people behind the scenes that made it all possible will get very little credit when in reality they were all necessary for contributing and creating success.

Regarding your comment on women in early Hollywood. I didn't know that.

I did a lot of reading regarding what you said about women, in early films, and I know times were different, but I still wanted to believe it wouldn't have taken so long for women to break back in. I was hoping to find a male in any capacity in Hollywood (actor, writer, director, producer etc) that would have fought for women or been an advocate but it seems like that took a very long time like you suggested. So I'm hoping somewhere in history (not just the last 10 years or so) that maybe there were men that knew women being not allowed to have certain jobs was wrong and fought for them.

Maybe they didn't get recognized or maybe they just didn't exist. If there was that's the guy (s) that should be recognized today regarding your question.

I think Harold Lloyd's contribution to film is seriously underrated. All his own stunts - because there was no such thing as a stunt double - and his movies were far more adventurous than Chaplin's, but Chaplin got more press.

Al Jolson making the first talkie was massive, and Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy carried a lot of comedic storytelling that created today's "buddy" movies.

From the 30s to the 70s John Wayne was probably the defining action movie star and Bing Crosby kept musicals going for decades.

Disney used the early green screen tech to create everything from Song of the South to Mary Poppins, blending live actors with cartoons.

It's hard to pick one who is most important. It's almost impossible to pick just one person genre.

I like to think it would be technicolor. Going from black white to colour was a big game changer.

Also a big applause goes out to all the matte painters in those days.. Being creative.. Placing the actor in wonderful places
