What is the Greatest Movie Sword Fight you ever seen?

Almost all swordfights in movies are flashy nonsense meant for spectacle. Sometimes they can be appreciated in context, but they generally do nothing for me. Actual formation fighting doesn't really deliver the spectacle the entertainment industry demands, and frankly, I don't think they do much research on the subject, anyway. Putting sword fights into modern fiction is really stupid, which is why *that scene* is one of the best part of Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Early episodes of "Vikings" and parts of "Outlaw King" were good. "The Duelists" has good one-on-one fights.

For my money it's the Duel scene from the movie "Rob Roy". Because it was less the skill and more the emotion that was portrayed during the scene.

Rob Roy MacGregor (played by Liam Neeson) was defending his wife's honor who was raped earlier in the film by the villain Archibald Cunningham (played by Tim Roth). This scene works because not only Liam Neeson plays a good hero, but also because Tim plays such a detestable villain. Going into the Duel nobody believed Rob could defeat Archie as he was clearly the superior swordsman. A point that was driven home as Archie toys with him opting to take him a piece at a time. But in the end this same arrogance was his downfall as he miscalculated the pain and injury Rob was willing to endure to see that his wife was avenged.
