My wife and I knew a couple who had four karaoke parties at their house a year for about 15 years until 2020 when they became terrified of covid.

They had hundreds of songs, mostly from the 1960s through 80s, to choose from.

Pretty much the same dozen or so people attended. We would dine first. And there was plenty of good drink to chose from.

The first time we went, I almost didn't sing anything. But when I witnessed how bad most of the other people were and saw how much fun everyone was having, I picked a song. I don't even remember what it was.

During the same period, I actually did gigs with real musicians and had my own band. I play guitar, too. So I actually knew how to sing.

But what surprised me at the parties was the fact that I started picking some oldies from their collection. I recalled the melodies of those songs from when I was a kid. And, so my surprise, I found that I could ham it up and croon really well to stuff like Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Bobby Darin, Elvis, old country/western songs, etc.

The women would ask me to sing Secret Agent Man by Johnny Rivers so that they could line up behind me and dance in a choreographed line. LOL

Brown Eyed Girl was one I sang to my wife.
I enjoyed acting up, doubling over in pain, on When a Man Loves a Woman.
I liked singing Stand By Me by Ben E. King, and What a Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong.

I got a chance to sing a surprising number of songs that weren't in my normal wheelhouse.

Beatles were kind of out of my vocal range. But I kicked ass on Light My Fire by the Doors, and enjoyed singing some songs by Cream, the Moody Blues, Tom Petty.

My wife loved singing duets with me on You Got Me Babe by Sonny and Cher, Daydream Believer by Davy Jones, and Ferry Cross the Mersey by Gerry and the Pacemakers.

The "girls" would get up as a group to sing Abba songs.
Sometimes everyone would join in to sing Beatles, Beach Boys, Mama and Papas, and CSN&Y songs.

Those parties were fun.

I did karaoke a few times when I was younger. I don't remember what I sang, other than it was a popular song at the time.

I have yes. Last song I sang was "Det ka'da'godt være jeg lugter lidt af fisk i dag" (it can be that I smell a little bit of fish today). Not something I do frequently tho.

Yes, I've tried karaoke a few times, and it's so much fun! 🎤 One of my favorite songs to sing is "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen. It's such a classic, and the energy in the room is always amazing when everyone joins in. Plus, it gives me a chance to channel my inner Freddie Mercury!
