But set in the 1800’s:


Basically a genius doctor with a tenure at a prestigious hospital who also goes out his way to kill people that he deems too evil to live because deep down is a deranged psychopath.


But when someone does deserve a shot at life he’ll stop at nothing to find a cure for them which makes him hard to love and hard to hate at the same time.


Naturally you throw in a decent support cast to make sure he has things to do and people to care about and boom a show to keep you on the edge of your seat

I think there are many shows about this topic but it would be about Adulting. It's so freaking hard to be an adult especially in today's economy. I would want it to talk about various subjects that are not talked about enough, like mental health and abortion. I think Euphoria hit on it a bit but that was for teens. I would like a show that features adults that are at least 26 years old. I'm not sure who I would want to play in the TV show but I definitely would want some fresh faces.

I do not know why this economy is so much harder than it was 30 or 40 years ago. My kids all make s lot more money than I did at their age and this is accounting for inflation and I was able to buy a house and support a wife and kids.
Maybe because kids today have protracted adolescences and take longer to grow up. I guess I just got thrown into the deep end and I was able to do the dog paddle.

No one watches TV like we did in the 20th Century when you could get enormous audiences for a program. Now, the only real program that generates a huge audience is the Super Bowl. Thus, making a high-quality, high-cost show isn't worth it with so few people watching it.

However, fine, I'll answer your question differently...

Around 1977, there was a short-lived Norman Lear show called "All That Glitters". The basic premise of the show was that gender roles were flipped; men were secretaries and women was the executives and leaders, etc. The camera work accentuated this! So, for instance, if a man (in tight pants) who was a secretary left his boss's (a woman) office, the camera would zoom in on his ass as he's heading out the door just like a woman checking out a man's ass!

Now, Amazon has a series called "The Power" based on the best-selling, prize-winning 2016 novel of the same name by Naomi Alderman. I haven't seen it yet... (I've read the book multiple times.)
In that show/novel, the world turns a bit upside down as women gain a power that makes them physically dominant over males who do not have this power (to generate lethal electric shocks like electric eels). However, in the novel, "the present" is actually 5000 years in the future after world civilization has collapsed and new world order has arisen much like today, but with women as the dominant sex... So, that's basically like "All That Glitters".

I'd want to see a remake of "All That Glitters" (which was a half-hour satire) done more seriously. It could be done as a sequel to "The Power" in which we see the world of 5000 years from now. In the novel, 5000 years from now is a "framing story" in which a male writer is submitting his novel for review to his female (and superior) friend. His novel is "The Power" which is a historical dramatization of "The Collapse" - the end of civilization 5000 years earlier. The point of his novel is to illustrate that the cause of The Collapse was that women gained their shocking power and that changed the world leading to conflict. Conventional wisdom in their time (5000 y from now) is that women always had that power and that The Collapse was due to an apocalyptic world war among (women-led) nation-states. However, archaeologists of their time are beginning to realize the truth. The man's novel, "The Power", tries to illustrate what happened that archaeologists believe but that the general populace does not.

It doesn't matter what the platform is. The costs to produce the show are limited by the income that broadcasting (*) the show can make. If a show cannot make money or is losing money, it will cease production and be cancelled.

The amount of money that a show can bring in is based on its viewership. Even now, the bottom line for televisions day-in, day-out operation is advertising revenue.
1. TV broadcasters charge advertisers to advertise on their show only based on the number of viewers of the show.
2. How much money the advertiser is going to make by advertising is again based on the number of people who view and then respond to the advertisement.
3. If the advertiser predicts that too few people will watch a show, see their advertisement, and then make a purchase, then they won't pay to advertise on that show, but instead advertise elsewhere.

The problem compared to the past is that the TV viewing audience is so fragmented because of so much choice that advertisers aren't getting their money's worth so the TV broadcasters have to lower the prices they charge the advertisers. So, then, the TV broadcasters (and producers) make less money so, to remain profitable, they have to reduce costs and thus make shittier TV.

This is why TV is slowly dying.

(*) By "broadcasting" / "broadcasters", I mean both over-the-air broadcasting and streaming. Same with "viewers"; viewers view whether on OTA TV or streaming TV.
