How can a figure out which vocal part suits me best?

I have always enjoyed singing with others and in the shower like most people. I have been asked to join a choir. I think I would take vocal lessons. How is the decision made of which vocal part would suit me best. I am not entirely sure sometimes. Thanks for any responses.

Is there a difference between contralto and alto? If I sing between soprano and alto, what would I be? That is my question. Thanks.

Try singing infront of people. Go through your vocals and when you see people run then you know part part of vocals needs work.

Contralto is lower than alto. If you sing between soprano and alto, you’re mezzo-soprano.
