I'm sure this question has been asked before but who do you think is a very underrated guitar player?

I've been listening to some of my dad's favorite singers/bands and I've realized, Frank Hannon, from the band Tesla, is one of the best guitarists I've heard and actually seen play. I'm sure he wouldn't appear on most people's top 100 but that guy plays with heart and is also amazing on acoustic, for a "rock" guy! I think Tesla, overall, is a very underrated band. I also have to say, Gary Richrath, from REO Speedwagon's early years. Most people don't appreciate the amazing guitar work on their songs. What are some of your picks?

You know I love Tesla but my pick is, Steve Wariner! He is highly recognized and known within the music circle (especially country lol) but he's not on anybody's list as the amazing talent he really is. He inspired an entire generation of country singers. Garth Brooks, Clint Black, Keith Urban, Blake Shelton, and a TON more! He's also one of my dad's favorites and that's why I appreciate his talent and became a fan. On a side note, Wariner was actually sought after by Metallica to play steel guitar on one of their albums!

Becky, the guy is a legend in music circles! 😂 He's won awards for his playing and is in the musicians Hall of Fame. I get that he may not be a household name but he's gotten a ton of recognition. Didn't he even win a Grammy for his playing, among other Grammy's for his singing?

I guess it's how you define "underrated". To me it's when you don't get as much mainstream recognition as you should. He does get a ton of recognition within the music industry but not by the consumer (fans), that's what I mean. Even in country, during his heyday, he never had a big following, he did have a very dedicated following. He had the talent to be another Garth Brooks but I think Steve was always in the shadows at that time, because a lot of huge stars became big at the same time. I don't know! 😂

That's an excellent choice! I am somewhat familiar with him. A lot of people pick people like cinematic lily did. I would not consider Alex Lifeson underrated. He may not get the recognition he deserves but he is known, respected, and on a lot of people's top 20? I could make the argument he's overrated, just for being in Rush! Your pick is basically unknown but extremely talented.

Frank Hannon is indeed a fantastic guitarist who doesn't always get the recognition he deserves. Another underrated gem is Alex Lifeson from Rush. His versatility and creativity have contributed so much to the band's unique sound. Despite Rush's success, Alex often takes a backseat to more famous guitarists. Also, Nils Lofgren is another name worth mentioning; his work with Bruce Springsteen and Neil Young showcases his tremendous talent. 🎸

Duane Allman. He died in an unfortunate traffic clash. But he is clearly one of the top 10 of time.

He played as a session musician on Layla with Eric Clapton who is also one of the top 10 of all time. The high guitar is Duane.
