The 1960s were a long time ago, before most of us on GaG were born.

But the 1960s was a decade of great music, much of which has been forgotten.

The list shows 15 of the musical artists that were popular in the 1960s but aren't very popular today.

How many of them do you know?

I remember ten of the fifteen. A little 1960's trivia: In 1963, Paul McCartney was dating Jane Asher. In London, she shared an apartment with her brother Peter. At age 16, McCartney had written a song which had never been recorded, as the Beatles thought it had no potential. Peter asked if he could record the song with his partner and "World Without Love" became the first hit for Peter and Gordon, reaching Number One in the US and eventually becoming one of the top 500 songs of all time, according to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

I sort of know this. There is a guy that does a radio show on Saturday and he plays a lot of British invasion stuff.
Later on Paul mcCartney married Linda Eastman who was a photographer. She was one that took the pictures for my favorite record album.

Based on my knowledge of history, most of those bands were from the early 1960s before the Beatles got famous and really changed music.

Yes, many were in the early 60s, but some, like Gary Lewis and the Playboys, Peter and Gordon, Paul Revere and the Raiders, and Dave Clark Five, were in the Beatles era.

I've never heard of a few of those. Several others I've barely heard of and couldn't name anything they did.

I just had a Dave Clark Five CD from the library a few weeks ago. I had a Paul Revere CD last winter.

I'm surprised that some of those had so many top 40 songs. But then getting to the top 40 isn't saying much. To really be considered a hit they need to get to the top 10 or even top 5. Some of those I'd call one hit wonders, if that much.

I do not recognize Ronnie Dove. All the others I am very familiar with. There is a station that plays music from those years that I listen to every time I am driving.
