In 1963, when I was 9 years old, growing up in Southern California, the Beach Boys started coming out with songs that celebrated surfing, cars and girls.

Brian Wilson had the iconic, immediately recognizable falsetto voice.
He went on to make a name as a song writer and genius arranger. His ground-breaking, experimental studio work influenced other artists and the entire history of music.

I'm still in love with many of the Beach Boy's early works. Songs like:

I liked his song "In My Room"

I saw him perform in 1990 at a military base on the 4th of July. Dennis Wilson had already died and John Stamos was playing drums. I put my young daughter on my shoulders and we walked up to the stage so she could cheer for Uncle Jesse. These guys were the real deal. It was the last time Brian Wilson toured with the band.

Unfortunately, Brian had plenty of drug and mental health issues dating to boyhood due to his exploitative, abusive father, Murray Wilson.
