Did you ever purposely avoid the music video of a song because you didn't want to change the vision of it you already had in your head?

No, I'm that way with places I like though. I wouldn't want to work at my favorite hotel or restaurant because it would spoil it having to deal with the day to day that people there probably put up with.

I'm going even further, most of the time I'm not even paying attention to the meaning of actual lyrics. Which is easier to do when listening to a song sang in a foreign language. I always wondered how all these songs broadcast worldwide sound for someone using English as a native language. To me, they sound like melodies with words, and I like this tailored meaning like that... Until I fancy looking for meaning intended by singers/writers.

The video to Hardcore by Beast in Black kinda ruined the song for me... kinda because the "woman" in the video was the ugliest, most unappealing gremlin I've ever seen sexualised in any medium.

Besides that... I've not had other negative reactions to music videos... but I quite often don't want to look up the lyrics for songs in case they turn out to not be about what I thought they were about.

YES! I stopped watching all music vids bc the version in my head was always more positive and upbeat.

Subconcoously yes. Kinda like a movie for a book can be damaging to the whole experience. Several songs I'll be like oh interesting didn't know they had a music video... it just hits different after. Save your tears for another day was a vibe changer for me.

No, but sometimes I think a video for a song is very unfitting and that whoever came up for the idea for the video concept, theme, storyline, etc. is an idiot. If the video is totally unrelated to the lyrics of the song, I am usually disappointed.

I have never been much on music videos. I prefer the live concerts as video. However if you have it that smile of yours in the video I would certainly watch it. That is the prettiest smile in your profile pic….

I don't really avoid the videos, but I do make up my mind what a song "means" to me, and I try not to let the video or official artist interpretations change that for me.
