Often in films the bad guy is more interesting than the good guy. It's according to how well the bad guy is portrayed in the screenplay and if you feel for the bad guy because he's had a hard life, and who's being the bad guy in the film. Those are the factors.

Think of Ocean's 11 and 12. They're all criminals, but what a charming bunch! You hope they get away with it because it's gambling money, sort of gotten nefariously from people who can not really afford it. So why not steal it! Same with "The Handover" movies. Here are good guys getting up to acting stupid, and who get into real trouble. Good guys gone bad for the weekend. You root for them because their bad is so hilarious.

So a few factors go into why you root for the "bad guys." Not actually doing bad, not actually bad to the bone are two top factors.

I always root for the ones like King Kong or Godzilla or even Frankenstein. I mean, people judge them as big and ugly and "not normal" and they never get invited to any social events.

And so what they may have destroyed a city or two? They are just seeking love and understanding and to find where they belong in the world like any of us.

Probably the last time the “bad guy” felt more honest than the hero.

Sometimes the antagonist carries the truth the story is afraid to say, they’re flawed, raw, and real.

I rooted for one not because they were right, but because they were human in a way the hero wasn’t.

Sometimes the villain just tells a harder truth.
