Boomers, which do you prefer, a modern Christmas or the kind we had in the `50's and `60's?

Modern Christmas: Everything is all about the almighty buck and they shove Christmas commercials and Christmas music down your throat from mid Oct. until the stroke of midnight Christmas night! Christmas decorations go up around Halloween and come down the day after Christmas! You hope your parents get you what you asked for and, if they don't, you can just exchange it the next day.

Old-fashioned Christmas: Nobody played any Christmas music or movies until at LEAST the end of Nov. and no one put up their tree and decorations until a weekend or two before Christmas and left them up `til at least a week into the new year so all your other relatives and friends' families could come visit and see your decorations, everything was innocent and mysterious and you wondered for weeks what Santa was gonna bring you, you left milk & cookies out for him to snack on and, in the morning, they were gone or at least half way eaten & drunk.

I remember Christmas Day at my grandmother's house in the 70s. They were awesome.

We'd do our usual Christmas morning stuff then mom would spend the afternoon getting dessert and part of diner ready and then we'd come up here to grandma's house for dinner with a number of the other cousins, aunts and uncles. The basement was more set up for a Christmas party so, there's be nearly 2 dozen people here unless the Gaza's came into town, too, that'd up it to over 30 people! Grandma had two itchen tables lined up lomngways next to each other and they're stiil set up like that in the basement and we could sit nearly everybody at one table. There's be a couple folding tables in the other half of the basement where some of the younger kids would sit. We'd have a huge turkey dinner and still have loads of leftovers, aunt Annette's stereo was hooked up to the basement speakers and she'd put on a stack of Christmas albums so we'd have non-stop Christmas music all night long!!
After dinner, some of the guys wanted to watch some stupid football game so, they'd go up to the living room to watch t. v.. Because the stereo had a switch to shut its own speakers off, the records wouldn't bother the football game.

Me, too!! The last few years that mom was alive, she preferred all her new fancy modern Christmas decorations and, since I was usually spending most of my time in the dining room on the computer and she spent most of hers in the living room and the tree was set up in the archway between the 2 rooms, I'd stick most of the antique ornaments on my side of the tree and most of her fancy ones on her side.
We never put the tree or decorations up until at least one weekend before Christmas. After Christmas, we spent the next few weeks "celebrating" it by either visiting friends and family for an evening to see their tree or having each of them take turns coming to see ours. So, the tree ALWAYS stayed up until at LEAST the first full week of Jan.!! Usually, by the start of that last week, the needles were falling off the tree so, it was soon get taken out to the garbage.
At my uncle Mike's house, he was an electronics wizard so, right outside his front door, there was fir tree growing there and he'd turn it into a talking Christmas tree and we'd stand outside talking to it for a good long time!! What we didn't know was that he was in the basement with a microphone and could hear us via a talkback mic he hid in the tree and would respond us in a very high voice which we'd hear from a speaker also hidden in the tree.
