Not maliciously. The only manipulation I remember was her taking her son home without her husband's knowledge and encouraging them both to spend time together and her son to spend time with his friends and brother while staying away from nikki trying to get better.
Tiffany certainly manipulated Pat from the beginning looking for a lover, then a friend, then a dance partner and then boyfriend.
Nikki certainly manipulated Pat and Gas lighted him which caused his mental breakdown in the first place. A form of domestic abuse. It was only when she saw that hed largely rebuilt himself, lost weight, learned to dance and was with a more attractive woman that she realised what a great guy she lost and wanted him back.
True I hadn’t considered other characters manipulating Pat as well.
The manipulation I thought was clear was even mentioned in the dialogue when Pats father says he didn’t agree with his mom telling Tiffani where Pat jogs and the camera showing her sheepishly feeling guilty about going behind Pats back.
I was wondering today if the book or movie hinted at someone fueling Tiffani with the facts on the football scores. In that scene in my opinion she plays the hero when she breaks into the conflict between Pat and his dad (a cyclical of abuse you notice from other scenes) and impressed his dad with her detailed knowledge of the scores. It’s a powerful emotional swing and because Tiffani says earlier that she hates football why would she know that much?
I think Pat's mother wanted him distracted and not chasing after nicki and ending up back in the hospital or jail. Remember he beat the guy Nikki was cheating with nearly to death.
That scene with Tiffani was her just stating basic football trivia, even if she hates football there would be no getting away from it being in Philidelphia and growing up there. Or seeing as Pat was wearing an eagles jersey and he turning down her intial sexual advances she being unemployed and clever would have no problem learning all she can about the eagles. Like I dont paticularly like football but growing up with it and my husband being big into it I know silly stuff such as Eagles fans are so mean they threw snowballs at Santa.
I saw that movie almost a decade ago. I forgot about it now.

In "Silver Linings Playbook," Pat's mom, Dolores, is subtly manipulative but well-meaning. She orchestrates Pat's release from the mental facility, hoping to provide him a supportive environment at home. Her manipulation mainly pertains to trying to maintain family peace and create opportunities for Pat to heal. She's not heavily involved in intrusive manipulation but rather acts out of love and concern for her son's well-being. Her involvement adds depth to the complex family dynamics in the film. 😊🎬
