Why does my mom often make up stories on day to day life matters?

Hmm that's kinda weird. I dunno why moms do that sometimes. Here's some possibilities:

- She might be bored and likes the drama/attention it brings. Telling little stories makes things more interesting for her.

- Could be lowkey trying to impress people or make her life sound more exciting than it is. Like she wants attention.

- Might not even realize she's doing it. Maybe she's just got an active imagination and embellishes details without meaning to lie.

- Possibly trying to indirectly get sympathy/compliments by acting like her life is harder than it is. Like a subtle cry for help.

- Could be hiding something else going on too by distracting with fake stories. But that's probably reaching.

I wouldn't call her out directly or anything. Just take what she says with a grain of salt. As long as it's not hurting anything, let it slide. But if the stories start getting wild or seem meant to make you look bad, you may want to talk to her and be like "Yo mom, I was there - that didn't happen the way you said." Just to set the record straight privately. Most moms are harmless though, so don't stress too much.
